Admittedly, he doesn’t kick enough goals, but even Tippa used to have runs of games where he was pretty quiet. In our case, we desperately lack the forward pressure, and Guelfi is the best we have available.
I’ve also been highlighting the need for a gun small forward or two. As others have.
he would give the structure a boost down there. I’d love for Scott to play a single ruck and give him another run. We was impressive in the Hawks game.
Hind is a major worry.
Finally gets on the ground in Q4 Anzac Day and is clearly wearing wrong boots. Slips at his first attack on the ball and pies score easy goal.
Against power is running free into goal and instead of just kicking the goal passes deep into a pocket to a contest. No score.
Like Menzies I don’t think there is much improvement possible. Both can run fast but not often with the ball, and when they do get it…… hmmmmm
I didnt think Schultz was that good for Pies, kicked 1 goal.
Small forward help could come from anywhere, just needs to be fit and have good awareness and positioning. Wanganeen could easily kick 1 goal and have 4 tackles like Schultz…I think he’s more advanced than Jayden Davey, and we might see him in a few weeks when Alwyn Davey needs a rest.
If yo-yo players are forwards pushing further up the ground, then we’ve tried that and we’re currently developing it.
Last year Guelfi and Snelling could do it, but it took away from their scoring ability.
Davey was playing a bit off the wing in VFL last year. Hopefully, he’s playing that kind of role at VFL to build his back and forth running ability.
Menzie was playing further up the field this year when playing which confused me as I felt it took away from our ability to trap the ball in our forward 50 and his scoring chances.
Gresh is definitely pushing further up into the midfield as well.
Jones being able to lead out to the wings also helps with the yo-yoing of other players.
We definitely need to draft and develop more options though.
