Given this isn’t going to concern Essendon for a few seasons it’s a good time to trial it.

Instead of wasting 6 months figuring out who plays finals.
Maybe we can just have a 18 club knock out tournament and have a grand final winner by the end of April.
Or the more likely scenario for us is we finally finish in the 8 and get knocked out by 9th or 10th
So there will be some triple-threat matches. Nice.
How about they get to the root causes of the inequalities that already exist and address them?
This is such a band aid fix. It just keeps the season alive for more teams that are garbage anyway
No holds barred
So it’s now going to be even harder to win from 7th or 8th
Two completely tone deaf decisions made by the AFL in consecutive days.
Just cut the bull ■■■■ and say you’re controlled by gambling companies and broadcasters.
But unfortunately, accurate ![]()
We are one of the few clubs who has experienced a genuine play-in scenario over the last 20 years. Our 09 game against Hawthorn was a big deal at the time partly because of the stakes, but also for what happened during the game. Even though we’re a bad example, I think what happened the following week is probably a cautionary note for how the actual elimination finals will play out the following week.
I have an idea.
Why don’t we get a big guy throwing the ball forward to a running wingman, sorry wide receiver…
Premier, world champion.
everyone’s going to (accurately) call this a fkng stupid idea
but then the games themselves will sell out and we’ll all watch them on the telly because we are all fkng stupid as well
so they’re going to be “successful” and we can’t* do anything about it
(* - could, but won’t)
start the season march 15th
one game every night (weeknights) or day (weekends)
winner stays on
winner of september 30 game is world champion
They should be doing that too. They are to a degree by making clubs play fair value for academy and father son picks going forward, if they weren’t so weak on the AFLPA (who have zero bargaining power coz there is no alternative competition), then that would straighten it out overnight by allowing trade without consent.
Personally I wouldn’t allow the top 6 to have free agency access and the bottom 6 don’t have their compensation affected if they pick up a free agent, that would balance things out quickly and ensure the cats, pies, swans, lions finally drop out of contention occasionally.
What’s moronic is that they decide to expand to a final 10, and are so short of their own original thoughts that they call the first weekend of finals “wildcard weekend”.
A clue for you AFL, wildcard has zero meaning in the AFL context.
Assuming the GF is now a two week lead-in, top four may get two weeks off during finals .
Wildcard. bye for top 6
Week 1 all play
Week 2 Top 4 winners get week off
Week 3 qualifying
Week 4 Prelim
Week 5 break promotion overdrive
Week 6 GF
Have I got this right?
I don’t think GF break has been confirmed?
They’ll be no gf break, i don’t like it anyway, that gf in 2021 was boring as hell waiting that long for one game.
I will continue to not watch a single game in full until the grand final
