So many players who played well enough to deserve a vote. So hard to choose three as better than the rest, and even harder to rank those 3 in order.

  1. Hurley. Best game for a very long time, certainly best this year and probably better than anything last year as well. He was helped by the fact that Franklin is not fit and could only really have one go at any contest, but I gave him the 3 because to see him outpoint Franklin again and again and then run off leaving Franklin in his wake was incredibly uplifting for the spectators and no doubt the team as well.

  2. Smith. He was just in everything all night, tackling, getting the ball, then doing good things with it. And the two goals put him just ahead of …

  3. Saad. Created havoc, and used the ball superbly almost every time.

I am very unhappy to have had to leave out Heppell, Zac Merrett, Brown, Tippa, Bellchambers, Fantasia, the whole damn lot of them actually. Special mention to Francis, who didn’t take the game by the horns, but did his bit and looked every inch a footballer.
