Van Diemen Dons Supporter Group

Agree with Houli Dooli that a training session/practice game would be very well attended and a reward to everyone for sticking fat as well as being traditional members over the years.

We will eventually play one down here, but I doubt it will be against Hawthorn or North, as it will be about building our brand not theirs. And I think it will be in Hobart rather than Launceston.

Agree Houli Dooli

You would have to hope after Richmond a few years back, Collingwood last year, and now Carlton this year Essendon would be next in line. Fingers crossed for next year! Hopefully initiatives like this show the club that even something like a preseason game would mean so much to the supporters down here.

Congratulations Tassie bombers, the Essendon Football Club has just declared the Van Diemen Dons to be their newest coterie. And the only one outside of Victoria.

Will be joining but can’t do the launch on Friday as will be on the way to Melbourne to hopefully see Bombers hand Brisbane the wooden spoon on Sunday.

Isn’t there a WA Dons?

Yes. But it isn’t a coterie.

A fantastic launch event today, glad I could make it. Plenty of red and black support south of the Bass Strait. Well done to the Club and all involved in getting this up and running and a magnificent gesture for nickyd’s children to be given life memberships.

As Chess said above, the launch went very well. Everybody seemed suitably impressed. Club was very happy. Two tv stations in attendance. Probably went as well as it possibly could.

Xavier Campbell spoke well, at length, and candidly. Also took questions from the floor.

Room was suitably red and black.

And the menu was very enjoyable.

Saw this dodgy dude loitering out the front, but the less said about local riff raft the better!

Great job Reboot and all involved, looks like it was a good time all round.

Lovely gesture for Nicky’s children.

The menu, yum, and you look mighty pleased with yourself and so you should be.

One of the best and most positive things to come out of this whole saga if the club reconnecting with its supporters and no longer taking them for granted.

Was a good day

Xavier Campbell is a superb speaker, open, honest and engaging.

Managed to raise a fair bit of money.

Lots of new members signed up.

Food ■■■■■■ lovely.

Everyone seemed to have a good time.

Was a great day. Well done to the inaugural committee in getting this happening.

Sensational work, everyone.

Congratulations Van Diemen Dons!

Sounds and looks like a very successful launch.

Essendon Football Club is proud to announce an official alignment with the Van Diemen Dons.

The Tasmanian based group’s inaugural President will be former state Premier Lara Giddings, who was in office between January 2011 and March 2014.

Ms Giddings said the Van Diemen Dons would aim to further raise the profile of the Club throughout the state.

“Essendon has been a pioneer in taking its brand beyond its immediate municipality,” Ms Giddings said.

“The Club enjoys tremendous support right across the country and particularly here in Tasmania.

“There are obviously logistical difficulties with being an interstate supporter, but in today’s world you should feel no less engaged.

“By providing a place for all Tasmanian based Bombers fans to come together we hope to build networks, camaraderie and showcase our support for the Club.”

The Van Diemen Dons will hold regular events throughout the year, including game day functions.

There will also be the opportunity to attend marquee Essendon events including the Season Launch and Crichton Medal.

Essendon Chief Executive Officer Xavier Campbell said the formation of the Van Diemen Dons is an exciting initiative.

“We’ve had a long partnership with Tasmania through our relationship with a number of supporter groups and we’re proud to build upon that,” Campbell said.

“The support we receive outside Victoria is never lost on us and we’re proud the hard work of our loyal Tasmanian fan base has now grown into an official coterie.

“This initiative is part of our broader objective to build on our level of engagement with national support groups.

“We’re excited to work closely with the Van Diemen Dons to harness our existing support and also expand the fan base across the state.”

Sorry blokes, missed it. Worked all day in the rain. Who picked the president? And how comes the Brisbane Lions were’nt on the menu?

All executive and committee roles are interim until the first AGM later this year. Lara was asked because of her high public profile and she’s been amazing. I hope she stays on.

As for the Lions, I believe that’s tomorrow’s special

From this mornings Hobart Mercury.
