#1 - Andy McGrath - from April 2022

Regardless of his feats on the field, McGrath showed his real substance and class yesterday in the press conference. He is very considered and articulate and certainly showed enormous respect and gratitude for what Scott has done for the club. You did yourself and the club proud, Andy!

Having said that, I think Sammy Durham is my ideal choice for captain from this list. Maybe 2027?

Really?

Apologies if a scam.

Horrid player.

Horrid ball use.

Horrid decision making.

Easily in the top 10 endings in movie history

He was dump kicking it all day. Constant turnovers.

His hame was fine. The only one of the four inclusions who played up to standard.

I was thinking he was a solid 4/10 performance until that last defensive effort on spargo to allow him to kick the last goal. The man’s instincts are everything you don’t want in a footballer.

I think the club needs to decide how it wants to play, we do this short chip kick possession footy in the back half which simply isn’t working. Both because our skills aren’t up to it but also because it gives our forwards very little chance to do anything.

there were two players in our defence that showed a willingness to take the game on. McGrath and Redman, personally I applaud them for that. We need to put some speed on the ball. I’d rather take the game on, take some risks as long as it’s a long kick that takes ground at the end of it (which both McGrath and Redman did). It’s the short 15 metre kicks that end up getting turned over which we need to take out of our game.

McGrath is a good and solid back pocket at other clubs but at Essendon he is the friggin captain!

Not a captain.

He did try. I spose.

One thing I will give him credit for is he did try and take the ball off the line and create something off HB. The constant switching to static targets and zero run and overlap, than taking it down the line to nobody is a pointless way to play.

We need a captain that can inspire, not one that’s a liability, I wish it wasn’t that way but it is.
It’s going to be the first real test for the new coach to have the courage to change the captaincy.

I want Toby Greene. Get him in. If Hirdy gets the job I reckon he could get him to committ to us.

Tuned in on the radio on the way home and the first thing I heard was “McGrath gets the ball and under pressure kicks a high dump kick into the 50, which is cleaned up by Comben.”

Drink!

He’s best mates with Ridley right? Can we trade them together & make Duz or Marto capt next year?!?
