#1 Andy McGrath - from April 2022

Mind blowing stupidity taking McGrath. Was on draft night and is obvious now

I haven’t read any of this thread but I must say how disappointed I am with Pigeon.
I can accept he may have been overrated in his draft, although I really think he can play.

What I am struggling with is his ā€œnice manā€ approach. So sick of him being the mediator in attempt to show leadership.
I get there’s a time and place but when I see an 18 year old kid gave his head rubbed into the dirt and ā€œleadersā€ do nothing but maintain peace, it really sh1ts me.

I can go on but what’s the use…

I thought he actually did some good things today but I wasn’t paying a great deal of attention to the game tbh.

Really? I think he’s pretty clearly put on a lot of size.
Won’t disagree with our terrible development though.

It’s funny, because earlier in the year he was the one trying to get into opposition players faces in that same situation, and a lot of people called him out for being a faux ā€œtough guyā€.
Can’t win.

That said we need a hell of a lot more out of him on field

Why draft a mid when you can draft someone else and try to turn them into a mid?

Why draft a half back flanker with pick one when you can pick a perfectly good one up in the MSD and then play him as a forward?

His chin is bigger now

Mate, he would look you in the eye today and still tell you the he made the right decision…
Gets more swept up in the personality traits and the pre-draft aptitude tests rather than football ability.

Merrett is just as bad, he does this all the time. Literally last week Hind’s head was driven to the ground head first and Merrett just walked nearby doing nothing. We have pathetic leaders and the only reason Merrett is even considered as a captain is because he is a good player most the time. He has done nothing to suggest he’ll be a competent captain, infact half the time I see him standing at the back of group rev-ups looking disinterested or jogging on the field looking like things are too hard…his fumbling and hospital kicks/handpasses…

Exactly
I think Redman could potentially set a standard but id hate for him to be the next James Sicily🤣

What’s it gunna be - the BBM or the box. The box might even have a BBM in it.

I reckon he has been somewhat disappointing so far as a ā€˜number 1 pick’. Then again I’ve not seen a better pick 23 than Jordan Ridley or a pick 30 than Redman.

Also, I really like McGrath as a player anyway (crazy I know!!) for now and the future- especially his contest work one on one and his ball movement from defence.

Also, fair dinkum he was ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  tonight and that is ok.

EDIT: Sh!te is censored?

I literally never notice this bloke is even on the field half the time. The worst thing is, just like heppell, shiel and merrett, when the heat goes up in games, he becomes even more invisible.

We farked up by taking him 1st.
Just like we farked up taking Francis.

he’s a decent player, he’s just not the superstar talent everyone expects with a very high pick.

which shouldn’t be a surprise because Dodoro just doesn’t have the ability to identify those players.

(who does though?)

i cant remember a #1 pick having such ordinary disposal, by hand and foot

He has no elite traits atm.
Heck theres only really one or two things he actually does well.
And I dont at all see him as a point of difference leader either, in fact I hope he is never made captain.
Give it to Zac for 3-4 years then hand it straight to Hobbs.

Im so so disappointed at Andys form this year. I really thought he was going to have a Parish esque break out season.

If someone came asking and offered a first rounder Id jump at it. The club would never do that though.
