“Host” you say?

Top 20 fav songs.

I remember with my top 10 albums I decided I could only choose one album per band. Doubt I’d be able to do that with 20 songs.

Why would you even try to limit yourself? No way could I even try to do that!

I reckon top 20 songs is going to be very hard…

  2. Kid A - Radiohead
  3. Chill Out - The KLF
  4. OK Computer - Radiohead

There aren’t too many modern albums I’ll listen in full and enjoy.
I’m excluding compilations where the songs can be found on other albums (like the Wanderers or American Graffiti) and only included live albums that are better than a studio album.

Black Album - Metallica
Nevermind - Nirvana
Central Park Concert - Dave Matthews Band
Smash - Offspring
Ten Thousand Fists - Disturbed
Trash - Alice Cooper
The Razors Edge - AC/DC
Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen
The Real Thing - Faith No More
Grease - The Soundtrack

Honorable mentions…
Three Days Grace - Three Days Grace
American Capitalist - Five Finger Death Punch
The Colour and Shape - Foo Fighters
East - Cold Chisel
Freight Train Heart - Jimmy Barnes
Soul Deep - Jimmy Barnes
Throwing Copper - Live

Sure, I can do it. I know the majority already, just would have to sit and think about order.

Righto…I haven’t ordered them but here goes.

Chicane - No Ordinary Morning.
Greend Day - Dookie.
Live - Throwing Copper.
Oceanlab - Sirens Of The Sea Remixed.
Counting Crows - August & Everything After.
Oasis - What’s The Story Morning Glory.
Cranberries - Everybody Else Is Doing it…
Killers - Hot Fuss.
Chemical Brothers - Surrender.
U2 - The Joshua Tree.

Apologies to Roxette and The Prodigy.

Well, this wasn’t an easy task. So many worthy albums didn’t make the cut, but may well do so by this time tomorrow, depending on my mood.

My ground rules were no compilations, no greatest hits, no live albums and only one album by each artist (otherwise I would have multiple Stones and Bowie albums).

In alphabetical order as too difficult to rank otherwise, here we go:

David Bowie - Aladdin Sane
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatman’s Call
The Congos - Heart Of The Congos
Ry Cooder - Into The Purple Valley
Elvis Costello - Imperial Bedroom
Brian Eno - Here Come The Warm Jets
Nick Lowe - Dig My Mood
Gram Parsons - Greivous Angel
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
XTC - English Settlement

Good to see Ace of Spades and Reign in Blood get a guernsey. They’d make my top 20 I reckon.

  1. Go Betweens - 16 Lovers Lane
  2. The Chills - Submarine Bells
  3. REM - Green
  4. Big Star - No 1 Record
  5. Stone Roses - Self Titled
  6. New Pornographers - Twin Cinema

  8. Big Country - The Crossing
  9. Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Rattlesnakes

I do love a bit of guitar jangle. Just outside , The Church - Heyday, Pixies - Doolittle, Sugar - Copper Blue, Guided by Voices - Human Amusements compilation (yes a cheat but it is as flawless a compilation as I’ve heard and demands a volume 2)
