I’d find 50 much easier than 10.
In order?
This is hard, here is a list of albums that I love. And often go back to. Interestingly a lot of the band’s that have been the most important to me over the years aren’t represented because their albums didn’t capture their live show.
- Dry - PJ Harvey
- Crooked Rain Crooked Rain - Pavement
- Little Plastic Castle - Ani DiFranco
- Camp Cope - Camp Cope
- The Bones of What You Believe - Chvrches
- Whipsmart - Liz Phair
- Visions - Grimes
- Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea - PJ Harvey
- Live through this - Hole
- Maxinquaye - Tricky
I could probably do a whole separate list of live albums…
I’ve seen this regularly rated as a critics favourite.
In order?

More or less
Same
1. Pearl Jam - TEN
2. Nirvana - Nevermind
3. Radiohead - In Rainbows
4. Faith No More - Angel Dust
5. Tool - Aenima
6. Metallica - Master of Puppets
7. Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
8. Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way
9. REM - New Adventures in Hi-Fi
10. The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Strung Out in Heaven
It’s pavement at their best. It seems to me they’re very much a band of their time based on the DJ thread. If you don’t like the style, you’ll probably never like them. But in the post Nirvana world this album was perfect
It’s been nearly four years, time for a reassessment.
I’d be interested to know how many still have (no shade, seriously) Ixnay in their top ten.
I don’t think mine will have changed toooo much.
The Wind. Warren Zevon
For Everyman Jackson Browne
After The Gold Rush Neil Young
It’s Too Late To Stop Now… Van Morrison
Charity Of Night… Bruce Cockburn
Afterglow Sarah McLaughlan
Big Calm. Morcheeba
The Pretenders… The Pretenders
Road Tested… Bonnie Rait
Only Human… Mark Guillespie
Could add 20 others… Tough and changeable
This still holds up alright - would probably shift a couple around and change a couple.
Would have to fit in Megadeth - Rust in Peace, and Obituary - Cause of Death… too hard. Helmet - Betty. I think I could do a dedicated metal one.
James Brown - Payback probably takes the place of Mellow Gold, outside metal albums.
1st time in this thread and noticed you’re Radiohead top teners, also noticed no In Rainbows, please explain?
Only Human is a greatly under appreciated album. Well played by listing.
Hmmm, I could easily go with this again, switch a few places around. But there’d be no fun in that.
CANCEL MY APPOINTMENTS, SOMETHING’S COME UP!
Does anyone else listen to the Footology podcast, where Connolly and Fine are presently counting down their top 20 songs and movies? I couldn’t care less what they list, but it means I’ve been thinking a lot about what my all-time favourite songs are recently.
I’ve started a list recently - I’ve only locked in No.1.
Top 20 seems reasonable.
Edit: I bet you Connolly has Helmet and Mark of Cain top 1 and 2.
I think he’s included both bands so far. They’re up to the top 4 or 5.
We should give it a go Jez.
Ooooh, blitzers top ten albums.
A podcast I would actually listen to.
