Pretty huge announcement today has gone under the radar with the NGA rules officially being changed. Another plus for us is that the points system won’t be altered until 2025 which means we’ll likely get Kako for unders.
Very good result.

Fk yeah
Love this for us. Get access to Kako but also don’t have to cough up too much as the points system is staying the same until next year
I’d be trading a few players out for later picks, so we can package them up for Kako, and preserve higher picks.
Yep, trade out of the second round and bank thirds, match kako with late picks then trade back into the late first/early second round
Could end up with 3 relatively high picks again
This is the hard part, most clubs rate this draft class and its depth.
Next year not as deep, so finding a club willing to take a future pick for a pick this year will be difficult
Yeah we should be looking at clubs who might want to bank points for matching next year. Eg you’ve got cats (NGA), pies (FS), GC (another Uwland through NGA) all with possible top 10 picks they might need to match bids on next year and might do a swap with us
Funny seeing the norf fans kicking up over it because they “missed out” on sanders despite the fact he only got added to their nga two months before the draft
Hope his form continues and he genuinely shows he is 1st round pick worthy, then get him with points.
Our first pick will be a top 10 pick so keep that, and see if we can con Adelaide to giving us there first pick for Redman and Draper.
Hopefully bringing in 3 first round picks this year works out better than 2020.
I will be looking forward to seeing Kako play for the Bombers in late 2026.
Its not quite as simple as that. Feel free to correct me anyone with full knowledge but this is how I believe it went down.
Sanders was in the Roos NGA program for many years as a younger kid when they maintained North Tassie as their NGA zone. But then covid struck and they chose to wind down their programs in the region to save money (and because it hadn’t been producing much talent I guess).
Then they tried to use that NGA history as a play to get Sanders for free when he emerged as a top 10 talent last year.
Question mark removed.
Welcome to Essendon Isaac Kako.
Pretty much. They made the perfectly sensible decision to wind down their academy investment given the rule changes. Then, after not having anything to do with him for four years, didn’t get access to him for the same reason they stopped spending time and money on developing him. Good decision by north that played out exactly as they would have assumed at the time they made the decision.
North has had plenty of freebies with concessions, fark 'em.
I’d argue even if they had zero freebies, fark 'em.
Crows wont be intrested in Redman now they had a massivr crack when he was ooc and a FA the club missed it’s opertunity to cash in.
Great to see a fellow Assyrian make it to the AFL
Hopefully he can avoid being Essendoned, and can go on to have a great career
I didn’t know that but there was also something about he’s aboriginality forms.
Don’t quote me on it but I believe they pushed hard at end to get it all through to get the access because of being aboriginal.
But if they didn’t have anything to do with him for four years prior they have very little to complain about, Melbourne on the other hand they genuinely missed out on Mac Andrew
Hes probably stuffed up a few times
But whoever was behind getting Nate is a genius.
