I personally can’t see it happening
Oh for sure. Keto ftw!
There are posts I disagree with.
There are posts I agree with.
There are posts that inadvertently border on the absurd.
Blitz posts can be any or all of these combinations at once.
Then.
There are posts that are worth supporting because they bear some relationship to how actual football teams are selected, not some Fantasy Football variety of cramming all your favourite players in any old how.
I’ve never been a fan of the dream team, all-Australian way of imagining footy selections, that ignores reality and ignores the opposition
That game against Port was all sorts of awesome.
Calling somebody garbage is inherently offensive, people shouldn’t have to put up with that.
Fair enough to comment on someone’s fitness or form or attitude, but Hurls is a decent human being and nobody has any business calling him garbage.
That’s half the issue. His form and body hasn’t been up to standard to allow him to play more than 40 games.
Xavier Campbell is garbage at his job…come at me
No problem with that, that’s just your and many others opinion of how well he does his job.
Honestly not sure if you’re serious.
If you sincerely take offense to my comment I would suggest you need to re-assess how you view what people say. Also keep in mind that simply being offended doesn’t necessarily add credence to your stance (many make that mistake). Nowhere did I say Hurls was a garbage human being nor do I believe it. You’ve conjured that up in your own mind. I don’t know how nor why you would do that.
My comment, and indeed any comment like it, references his on-field exploits. As a person I think he’s terrific.
I believe your clarification, and that is useful and puts it in perspective as a critique of his on field play, similar to robbo’s reflection on X’s performance as CEO.
But you did out and out call him garbage, and left me free to construe that it was directed at him personally.
I get your point, but if you called me garbage I would be less than impressed and left free to imagine it was meant to be however deeply offensive my own insecurity lead me to believe.
I don’t know you, so if you leave it to my imagination, how can you expect me, or Hurl’s for that matter, to know what you mean if you provide no clarification on the limit to the meaning of your comment.
Good. I’m glad this was clarified.
Yes, but in this instance you have misconstrued my view and have failed to play the percentages. Surely we can agree that such a comment is very unlikely to be a critique of Hurl’s character.
That’s not a fair comparison. If I called you garbage then yes, that could entirely be seen as a personal slight. But this is a football forum. We discuss football. There’s a significant difference in context between those two scenarios.
As stated above, because this is a football forum. I don’t see a clarification as necessary. I can’t help but feel that you’re a touch pessimistic about the intentions of your fellow posters. Will freely admit seeing some resort to personal insults will test your resolve but have more faith in people.
Francis has star qualities. He is explosive, has elite ball handling, has a brilliant kick in terms of passing and penetration, reads the play beautifully and is excellent overhead.
He needs to be played in a position which makes use of those qualities. This year he was played as a defensive stopper on talls and mediums. What a waste! He should never be used as a negating player.
His best position is that of interceptor. But guess what? Ridley has taken that role and is better than him at it.
So if he wants a best 22 roll he needs to get over his reluctance to play forward. He is potentially a much better and more destructive forward than Wright, Stewart and LAV. he is stronger in the air than all three of those players, is much cleaner at ground level than them and is better at locking the ball in with defensive pressure. He has the ability to be too agile for talls and too strong overhead for medium defenders.
If he wants and AFL career he has to improve his fitness and play forward.
… or go somewhere else.
I find it interesting that many are willing to move Heppell to an intercepting role. Why not play Francis there and let Heppell play his midfieldiest midfielder role? I’m not sure his foot is going to care one way or the other.
Are you serious.
Take a couple of steps down from your high horse and stop sprouting a bunch of intellectual fluff I assume the purpose of which was to enhance the legitimacy of the position you have taken on this.
To take a leaf from your book, your dissertation as written leaves you open to my interpretation.
I have so interpreted.
In any event, having only just read these comments, at no point did I ever think the writer was doing anything but commenting on the individual’s current football capabilities.
I am not saying that I agree with him, but at no point did I think anything else could be reasonably inferred.
The statement made … in the context of this forum and all that was said on topic previously simply does not support forming any other view.
You are of course free to interpret anything thing you want in any way you like, even if it does sound absurd to me. And it does.
I don’t know what happened to Aaron in 2020, A bad year all around for so many reasons.
I don’t believe Ridley is better than Francis, although I concede he had a monster 2020, and for some reason thrived.
He didn’t look any better physically prepared in 2020 as compared to 2019, but started well and continued.
I thought he was pretty ordinary in 2019, but good on him for his achievements.
On the other hand, Francis seems to have been given a new role, and I will be damned when I saw him constantly trying to punch rather than mark. Terribly negative, and I think a defensive error, because in a marking contest, although he won’t always win, I believe his body strength will at least result in no one winning the marking contest and the ball coming to ground. The body positioning for a punching role, is so different and I think neutralises his potency.
2021 is a new year, no matter how far you fall behind, if you haven’t lost yet, you can still win. Just focus on the next contest, win that one and the next and keep winning. The past has happened and can’t be changed, and the future is yet to be written.
He just needs to believe in himself and go out there and play.
Get in the moment, and stay in the moment.
I think the kid has been caught up in a bit of a head ■■■■, with all the push and pull going on around him.
Taking it one 400m at a time. Keep chipping away Franga, it’ll come.
Here he comes.
Give ‘em hell Aaron.
He’s never gonna be the fittest guy on the list, we all know it and should have accepted it by now. But it seems his attitude is good and he’s working hard to start the pre-season; get him as fit as is possible and focus on getting him confident. I reckon he will be damn good if he’s in the right headspace…
If he’s not going to be the fittest guy on the team, or equal to the fittest guy, then his attitude is not good.
If his attitude was right, he’d be training as hard as he needs to to get fully fit.
Wrong. These things are about physical capacity, not attitude. Like how world class sprinters who worked their ■■■■■ for years and years still couldn’t run faster than Usain Bolt.
