#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026 (Part 1)

I don’t see it long term.

Short term, first 5 or 10 games when he’s built like a twig, sure.

Agility will be the issue, more than tank or acceleration.

A small will kill a tall once the ball hits the deck, and changing direction (on the turnover).

cox in 13 will erase memories of fantasia.

13in cox will do that.

So we draft a 200 cm running machine, who is an elite kick on both sides and has the ability both put distance between himself and an opponent as well as leap over a pack when given room to run at it. His one and only potential weakness is wrestling for contested marks.

All day, slow, loopy passes right on top of his head.

Give him a taste early if form warrants.
Then assess.

The quote from Kepler, that I think summed him up was, when asked “What do you like most about playing footy?”
Replied along the lines of “Playing kick to kick at training & punching/ getting punched in the head”

The comparison to Bradley and Gumby is fair if you’ve never seen Cox play.
Young Nick Riewoldt is closer, but he looks more slender and agile so even that’s not a great comparison.
Of course none of that says he’ll make the transition. I friggin’ hope so.

Our top 3 draftees all can kick a footy really really well. Which I love.

I think all three on both sides too.

A friend who lives very close to the Cox household said you could hear the yells and screams of delight from the house when his name was called by Essendon. It was (apparently) most unexpected but very much welcomed.

Unexpected?

I thought near everyone and their dogs had this one inked in?

(W/Board etc etc)

Yep, unexpected. He was under the impression that he would be taken at 10 by Giants.

Nic’s is just getting in good and early with the young tadpoles.

Cox2Davey2Davey will be the new Fletcher2Lucas2Lloyd from 2022 and onwards

Very right. Kepler played some decent footy for Freo playing HFF/second ruck at the end of his career before injuries wiped him out. Imagine if he was able to play to his strengths in the previous 8 years he had spent in the AFL system.
