Is it a bit weird that I kinda like the AFL media sooks trying to ignore our kids with their precious little trinkets?
Thereās no conspiracy, he just hasnāt produced a single outstanding performance that warrants a nomination. Based on consistency, he is a desevered favourite, and he will be rewarded with a nomination in time. Archie has probably out performed him of late, and is a more likely nominee this week IMO.
bang on. happens all the time
Jones for me. Of the three I thought he had the biggest impact on the result
Agree Jones has been important, but I thought Archieās 3rd quarter was pretty instrumental in swinging the game our way.
Pretty great having Cox, Perkins and Jones all come and be influential players. Itās been a long time since weāve bought multiple players of that quality into the side.
I donāt think weāll realise how important Jones has been to our resurgence until we rest him, he covers so much ground up forward and heās just so disciplined. Creates the space that others are benefiting from
Working hard is one thing, but if you canāt hurt the opposition they will happily just sag off you. However if you are clean and damaging the opposition canāt give you space.
Jones works hard and hurts teams, he kicks well for goal and canāt be ignored as a defender. Very important for us.
Hird didnāt win the rising star, but was easily more influential than Buckley who accumulated heaps of the ball.
None of our kids have actually had standout games compared to the other rising stars, or they have but were trumped that week. Generally each week whoever has received the nom has been almost best afield, kicked a bag or probably got brownlow votes.
Our guys arent the heroes we know they will become yet. I doubt thereās a conspiracy, the media are fawning all over our young players.
Cox and Perkins both missed important shots on goal that they need to take, Cox got caught running too far and Perkins ALMOST took a few marks. If you really want to stand out you need to clean up those parts.
Who actually gives a dark about the rising star award?
Itās really just a media popularity award and not indicative of where the players careers will end up.
Never understood why people get so up in arms about these things.
Lol, this is blitz!
I think our blue collar game style contributes to these players not standing out. Perkins is focused more on the game plan and doing the team thing, rather than getting off the chain like he used to do in APS and Dragons games. I think once they master our game plan, these young players will have the opportunity to stand out.
Iām not particularly fussed if he gets a nom or wins, but itās a nice thing for a young kid to get.
At the end of the day it will depend on what criteria the judges use. If itās about current impact I think it will be Green, if itās about future stardom itāll be Cox easily.
For years weāve heard about KPP/Rucks who move like midfielders etc. but heās the first Iāve ever seen that has the evasiveness and speed of an 180ish cm mid at 200cm tall. Even someone like Cripps at 195 doesnāt have his speed and evasiveness, heās unique.
Nik had one of his more quiet games this year. Wonāt get the nomination for round 11 but is in the discussion for the award.
Couldnāt be happier as I still think Pero and Reid may end up being better players. (starting to look wrong now though )
Already one of my top 3 current favourite players.
Just 5kgs more on him I reckon and he will be so dangerous. Doesnāt need to be too heavy imo.
When he gets into serious form over the next few years itās just gonna rub it even harder into carltons face how much they ā ā ā ā ā ā up.
Will win a brownlow I reckon and possibly a norm Smith
Gee it feels good to have elite talent back at essendon.
We can finally say we have X factor players.
We didnāt get him with the Carlton pick though
Meā¦ā¦I have 5000 reasons to hope that Cox wins it!
Doesnāt mean we wonāt tell Carlton supporters that we did!
I dont care
unless when we win it, of course
