#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026 (Part 1)

Someone reported on Blitz at the time that he injured his shoulder picking up the cheque from his just-signed contract

I’ll be interested to see where Scott decides to play him next year when he’s back. Word going around he was set to become a defender which I was in favour of. Or do we move him back to the wings or move him up forward?

Could be the best wing ever. Or if as defender, the next Kepler Bradley.

Play him on the wing, FFS.

it would be the essington thing to do, draft a tall midfielder and try and turn him into a back.

not sure having potentially two 200 plus centimeter stick defenders would be a great way to go, not exactly sure who they’d be pushing out of the side either unless they exponentially took off next year.

The thing that sticks in my mind in he first year was scooping up a loose ball and running into goal and drilling it to me he’s a forward or wing

WOB has a balanced opinion!!! (Again)

Yeah but he’s 200cm; he can’t do that!

If he plays back it would need to be as a Tall HBF. Which might actually be his spot considering Durham and Martin have the wings locked down with the occasional chop out from Langford

Both Martin and durham — especially Martin — can play other positions. Cox has the potential to be the best wing ever. Why not see if he can?

To become the best wing ever he is going to need to win 2 Brownlows as a minimum. That is how many Keith Grieg won playing on the wing.

Opposition players eventually worked him out on the wing, closed down his space and got physical with him.

And??

and a great player will work his way through it. hasn’t had the chance yet

Yeah but he’s gonna have to earn his spot first and the two incumbents are big reasons why we’ve performed so well this season. He also hasn’t played a lot of footy in that wing spot yet so he might be better served playing his first few years behind the ball and learning how the game flows.

As a 200cm player he’ll be a late bloomer, even before injuries, I wouldn’t expect him to be constantly contributing until he is in his mid/late 20s

He’s got quite a bit of work ahead of him to even be in the best 2 wings in our team, let alone, the best ever.

Blicavs is one of the most influential players in the game, the dream would be if Cox could become like him.

Yes but my post was expressed in the vernacular of this forum. People here often claim someone or other is the ā€œbest everā€. Someone even wondered if Bewick jnr could be the best ever and he is at least 5 years off playing!

Why does he have the potential?
The Wing is an incredibly instinctive position, to know when to keep space, to know when to cut in, to know when to run forward or back….

Just because he’s tall and can run doesn’t mean he has the smarts to do it. In fact I’d argue if he’s not already locked in as a wingman he’s not going to be one.

He also needs to toughen up a bit if he’s playing wing as he’ll be asked to drop back into the hole a lot.
As good as his first season was, he had far too many pairs of brown shorts at the end of games to sustain.

Did you actually watch his first season? He intercepted a lot of times in defence, and played the wing well for someone of his age and experience.

That will only happen if he was a steeplechaser. Anything less and he will never be TALL AND ATHLETIC.
