#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026 (Part 1)

Foward pocket/flank roaming up to the wing.
Kicked 3 goals in a game when we were struggling.
Looked most comfortable there.

I agree. I think he is a mobile 2nd ruck or it’s over.

To the training watcher’s, anything noticeable or unnoticeable like this thread?

A bit of noise around that he is having concussion issues. Hasn’t been doing any high intensity training

TBH I forgot he was on the list.

Doesn’t auger well for him if it’s concussion impacts.

One of the criticisms of him is he doesn’t go in hard enough or a little soft, so If this is true he’s in all sorts.

If he’s got concussion issues he’s basically cooked

This guy should be a beast now after a handful of preseasons and he’s still an unknown

No he shouldn’t, 2 injury free years away I reckon. 40 games from really understanding his body.

With his attributes should be given a bit of grace til he’s 25-26 imo.
Also, did we already know his dad played for Fitzroy, Bris & Melbourne? (As a random bit of trivia)

No surprise really after seeing that concussion last year

He he gained any weight, does he look any bigger?

He has had no pre-season, therefore a long way back. Anything he achieves this year, it will be a bonus. Need to have low expectations at this stage, little to no chance he has a break out year given the little prep he has had.

What attributes are those?
He is meant to be a nice kick, yet hardly hits a target.
He is 200cm tall, but is often out bodied by smaller players.
He is mobile for a big player, but doesn’t use it to exploit anyone.

All of these supposed attributes are useless because of skill issues, application, and his waffer thin body.

He has loafed about on the boundary barely looking interested each session I’ve got down this summer. I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if he was moved on end of this season, has shown absolutely nothing since after the bye 2021

He’s a bust

I still maintain his best position is chf in the reiwoldt style of hard running up and back but the injuries have put a dampen on things.
Also it was clear as day in he’s first season that he was a forward but stuffing around on the wing and defense has stalled any development.

The attributes that saw 18 clubs consider him a first round pick?

Only attribute he’s relying on at the minute is his draft position.

As a top 10 pick (Covid year, talls take longer to develop, injuries, blah, blah, blah…) he’s well short of a Blicavs level unicorn.

But I think he has a needed role as a utility.

Effectively a bench rotation that can cover almost any role on the ground - flanks, wing, kpf, kpd, ruck. Far from elite at any. Better at some than others. Good rotation / injury cover.

People who don’t see role players like that as important are probably trolls.

In theory maybe but he’s not gonna be much use as an AFL footballer full stop if he’s dealing with lingering concussion issues or is tentative and half hearted as a player which he often has been coming back from injury. Outside of a patch in his first year he has seemed to me like a guy who lacks mojo. He lost it somewhere along the way. He had a couple of nice moments last year but yeah, put me in the camp who doesn’t see it coming together.
