#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026 (Part 2)

How many months before we are not failing in our duty of care?

Not the point.

If Cox were battling for a few weeks after receiving a concussion then wouldn’t any amount of months before return to a contact sport be seen as a failing of a club’s duty of care in the current landscape?

At the time, Kane Cornes was saying that if this is all it takes for a player to be concussed, he shouldn’t be playing. He was wrong. The wrong body part striking the wrong spot at the wrong pace can cause concussion more easily than people know. Could totally be chalked up to a freak occurrance, as evidenced by the fact that this hasn’t happened to Cox before.

But how easily you are concussed isn’t the only factor to consider when assessing a player’s suitability for taking to a professional AFL footy field. We’ve also got to look at how easily they bounce back from a head blow. Never seen an AFL footy player take months to recover from concussion. Unless there’s something else going on, it’s a sign he should put his health first and part ways with the club.

I highly doubt he will make it beyond this year, sadly his footy days are numbered.

He won’t be able to get another knock to his head, given how long he has been out with symptoms

As a random Blitz poster, your questioning of medical decisions made by the professional medical team at the club is highly valued.

Putting together the player, the injury, ongoing assessments etc - what is the right time frame to recover? 6 months, 8 months? Do tell.

'Bout time my mecical opinion started receiving its dues.

Jokes aside, I may not be making myself clear.

It’s not a case of ‘we only waited 6 months, we should have waited 7.’

It’s a case of ‘if we’re still working this problem out after x amount of weeks then are we putting him at risk by sending him out when it took months to get ontop of?’

Consider this. Is there a difference between saying ‘player A is too easily concussed so he should retire’ and ‘player B isn’t easily concussed but when he is, damn, that concussion slaps him around so he should retire?’

If you have a female boss in a Spanish-speaking country, she’d be called a heifer (spelt jefa)

Without professional medical experience and access to the player it’s pointless to speculate.

True, but that could be said for most discussion on blitz. Speculate on, I say!

Most discussion on blitz isn’t about if the club is failing in its duty of care by playing Cox after his concussion issues. In this case, the only way to know if the club is failing in its duty of care is to be part of the clubs medical department.

And we can’t talk about that…why?

HEH-fah

What’s the point? The club medical department might be failing in there duty of care or they might not and there’s no way for us too know either way.

What’s the latest on Cox from the training watchers? @CJohns do you have a vibe? (Much appreciated if so)

Cox has the potential to be very important for the rest of the year, either as a relief ruck of a key forward that allows Wright to play more minutes in the ruck.

Not seen out on the track today. Unsure where he is at tbh.

Parish was out there on light training. Guelfi nearly did all the session. He looks to be only weeks off

Have to say a few doubts on Redman fitness. We will see

Injury thread had him on the rehab oval.

Might explain why he didn’t look his best against West coast.

Yeah, that was me.
I noticed him late, up the far end of the rehab oval.
Unless there’s another tall skinny player I’ve mistaken him for :man_shrugging:

Are we hitting targets or donking around still? Do they look happy to be out there

Much appreciated!
