#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026

Give him a 5 year extension and cut Jake loose now.

Played alright as a forwatd, kicked 3 goals in a game when we were struggling.
We just need a dangerous small forward as well.

What Cox forward, a small forward and we are contenders?

Whilst 2MP deserved to be playing in the VFL due to his inability to take a contested mark, changing him in the ruck and on the bench consistently did not help him or the team. He is our best kick for goal and that means something when we could not buy a goal. You need some stability with the forward structure . Mind you the suspension where he was left to hang out to dry did not help either.

Lol. That comment along with people asking ā€œhow many games have you playedā€ has to be the dumbest sht anyone can say in a sport related discussion forum.

Cox is the subject not me and heā€™s the one playing profession Aussie Rules. And howā€™s HIS record in contact sports going do you think? The blokeā€™s had 3 years to prove us wrong. Heā€™s not strong enough for the AFL. Show me proof to the contrary

I donā€™t think his strength is the big issue here, he is still young and will not reach his peak till he is 24-26 years old. The issue with Cox is what is his position. I donā€™t see him being outstanding in any position, which is really what you want from a top 10 pick.

Donā€™t think so, youā€™d probably just feel all his bones poke you

He has played 53 games of AFL, he is strong enough.

What exact skill set are you refering too ?

I can claim alwyn Davey was the best utility we ever had, cos he could play ever position, forward, back, mid, ruck too.

Merely saying it and saying you can place him in any position, doesnā€™t actually mean he can play it.
cox is not a backman, and heā€™s struggled to cement a wing role, for obvious reasons.
so no he canā€™t play all those positions.

He is playing golf today. He better stick to footy.

Heā€™s a FWD/RUCK and will be our Mac Andrew.

Genuine question: is developing a key position player on the wing a good approach?

Iā€™m a little skeptical of the long-term benefit to guys like Cox and Jones of playing them as wingman. Wingman typically have very different bodies to 200cm key position players. And it takes years to build a key position body. And almost all good 200cm players are key position players.

Check his stats

Heā€™s not a key position player. Heā€™s just aā€¦ā€¦
I donā€™t know? Maybe a unicorn?

No itā€™s not but weā€™re in a constant ā€œwin nowā€ mentality which forces this sort of stupidity.

Cox is a top ten pick because Dudoro et al picked him. Not because heā€™s a gifted footballer with unlimited potential, vision, leadership skills etc. I wish people would stop expecting so much of him.

Time will tell

I wish people would stop insinuating that he was only a top 10 pick because ā€œDodoroā€. Itā€™s simply not true.

Heā€™s a version of a KP player. More the type that gets up and down the ground and creates mismatches through their work rate and effort, than the type that pulls in massive pack marks. If the rest of the structure is sorted he can be damaging either as that sort of CHF, or as a 3rd tall who plays that role around a big FF/CHF combo.

We just need to work out how we want to develop that well balanced forward line and commit to that, rather than second and third guessing ourselves, making changes to try and win short term, and generally placing development behind winning now.
