#13 Nik Cox - thru 2026

People need to remember this was his first full season since his draft year, 2022 (5 games) and 2023 (6 games) were wiped out by injury.

He is hardly the issue with our list. He’s 200cm give him a few more uninterrupted seasons + preseasons before we make a call. Definitely worth persisting with

Always enjoy reading the “not our worst” after a game, “there are others worse/ should be axed/delisted before player x” comments.

Always an excuse regarding anything Essendon.

He should probably be developing skill and confidence in the VFL while also getting some size and strength about him.

Next year will probably be the decider though.

Both him and jones really do need to be pretty exceptional to remain in the side because if they aren’t (and right now they definitely aren’t) we would seem to be giving up a hell of a lot in terms of speed and ground ball ability for not very much at all in return.

I just dont think theirs a spot for him in the team.

Unless he significantly improves, he isnt a better winger than Martin, Duurs, Roberts and potentially Hawli.

He isnt a backman, and he isnt a forward.

Bloke has no actual position, which was the biggest question mark over him on draft night.

He has had his injury free year, he needs to really develop next year or I’d be moving off him fast, especially when it comes to game time we could be giving to somebody else.

Dodoro special.

“He’s from a great family”

Too bad he’s ■■■■.

He’s an obvious forward who causes match up problems. Just need to get the rest of the forward line sorted around him. Ideally he’s 3rd tall providing resting ruck minutes.

I tend to agree. He has great skills for a tall. In year 1 his biggest strength was his endurance. I remember in his first year he won all our club time trials. From memory this year he was mid level at best. He has been getting well beaten on endurance on the wing. If he is a 3rd tall he would beat all of his opponents on work rate, hopefully be able to create space for himself in doing so and not then need to rely on taking contested marks or winning the ball in the contest.

I’d give him a full preseason as a forward.

I’ve got no idea what he is. But, at this point in for a penny in for a pound. Let’s see what we have, he was always going to be a slow burn.

The best and probably only position for him

Gee Jones defensive pressure is pretty good …. I like Jones, reckon he will take the next step as a forward. I think Cox will take a while but will get there

Play him in a position befitting someone his height. Given we’ve got Hayes and Reid as key backs, play Cox forward alongside Jones and Caddy. And don’t move him. I’m sick of our impatience developing key players. Talls take time, but they’re worth their weight in gold when they’ve built their bodies and know how to play a key position.

Honestly I’m fine with Coxy’s season. Stoked he finally played games and showed patches of being an AFL player for us. Remember he’s always going to cop that high draft pick tax in supporter eyes. I’ve always thought that we won’t see the best of him until he puts on some mid-career type bulk, so he can use his athletic gifts WITH added strength.

A good example was Langers who didn’t really show a heap until his body matured at 24/25 years old. This year Coxy was only 22. Still think he will be a Blicavs type utility role player for us.

He might not be a star for us but extremely rare to find a player with Nik’s skillset. I’m sure any coach would love a 25 year old Nik Cox who can literally play every position on the ground. Who needs a sub rule when you’ve got a guy who can play forward, back, mid & RUCK!

He has no skillset , no pace , a ■■■■ attitude and no position on the football ground

He’s in the wrong sport. He’s a weakling. Trade or delist.

Amusing when someone posts that a 96 kg 2 metre AFL footballer is a weakling. What is your record of playing any contact sport ?

Give him another season, and maybe he can prove you wrong.

Still a big bloke, and you would notice if he fell on you.

I’m really not sure about Cox, as it is I’m not sure any position he could potentially play there isn’t another player similar age that could play it better. Hopefully I’m wrong.
