#13 Nik Cox

I’d still be playing him on the wing when he’s back.

Showed good signs there in 2021 and you need 3 wingers in your 22 to allow rotations.

Who else can play the wing position well outside of Martin and Durham (debatable)?

Well the other two who were earmarked for wing time are injured, Langford and Hepp. It’s definitely Martin and Durham’s spot to make their own. But yeah definitely agree that you want it being a three man rotation. With all the others being injured at this stage (not long term) including Cox then they’ll probably just have a non specialist mid roll through there - Setterfield, Caldwell, Merrett etc.

I think he needs to be a defender. The fact he was training there probably confirms that’s the plan longer term. Fingers crossed he’s available soon.

Langford has shown he can’t play the position.

No clue why anyone thinks Heppell can play wing.

If there’s one position that exposes a lack of pace, it’s the wing.

Cox is back into full training and will play some game time in the VFL this week

He will end up a handy size, so if he can play defence, that’s going to be a big bonus for us

Langford can absolutely play the position, it’s his best position and we need him there.

Oh yeah Hepp is cooked. No disagreement there from me, just saying if fit you can almost guarantee we’d be playing him and that he’d roll through the wing.

I disagree a bit on Langford. When fit, I think he’s played good footy on a wing. He has the ability to push forward and create a mismatch with his opposition wingman and be a threat aerially. But he’s clearly not right physically since his repeat hamstrings. Let’s hope he gets there.

Cox should play a month in the VFL as a defender both as he’s underdone physically but also as development in a new role.

I don’t know why we don’t play Merrett on wing.

Player there in 2020 and had a massive season.

He’s not a great clearance player and would break up the mix of short on ballers.

I’m more worried about the next 12 months, They could both be unemployed beyond that.

You know nothing about football if you think Cox and Reid will be delisted in 12 months time.

I know they won’t be delisted, we will give them 7 or 8 years before we do that.

I was encouraged by what Scott was saying re not rushing him back. I think from a health perspective and then also confidence wise, 4-6 weeks in the VFL wouldn’t do any harm to him.

Are you implying that the club SHOULD delist them in the next couple of years but will a make a mistake in keeping them longer?

I’m implying that if they don’t get on the field and start showing something within the next 18 months then yes we should delist them.

Wood pretty much showed what I hope Cox will become.

Is this guy alive?

Wood exposed our wingers with height and knew he would win all the marking contests, poor old duzza needs a run and jump at it. If Cox was there with his height he would have compteted better in the air, and been a outlet for us. We could have moved Langford there though with his height would have created a better contest.
