#15 - Dyson Sharp

Robey and sharp have both played a lot of senior footy though. In fact, some of the Robey at Rowville games are a good watch on YouTube.

looks like a goal keepers ball drop, good grief, good for my health we didn’t draft him.

if scott picks robey ahead of perkins and farrow ahead of prior he might just earn another year in my eyes.

I’d say Farrow, Prior and Johnson are competing for the 7th defender spot. We all know Scott will play Prior over them

Robey and Perkins competing for one spot. With Perkins likely having an interrupted preseason, Robey may play early.

With Setters gone, I’m not sure there’s much competition for Sharp’s role. Sharp playing will depends on injuries and whether Durham moves forward

only competition for sharp might be Tsatas’s new mystery role but i’d expect there to be room for him in any event with hobbs gone and i expect sharp to rocket past tsatas too.

Dunkley - Sharp
Neale - Parish
McLuggage - Merrett
Ashcroft - Caldwell

  • Bailey - Durham

That’s probably our best lineup. Brisbane obviously much more class and scoring threats

Sounds like Perko might have a touch of the old OP. Would explain his dramatic drop off last year. I think Robey will get his opportunity.

The more I see about this guys traits and skills he sounds awfully similar to Ollie Wines. Kicking fine but not elite, speed fine not lightening but not slow. Great leader, aggressive, good tackler, great in the contest. Would that be a fair comp?

Is wines the greatest player of all time? Because if not you might selling sharp a little short

Yeah. Let’s not give him a big head.

His kicking will be better than wines’.

Also quicker as he’s a much more athletically built.

wines stronger.

I reckon sharp has similar strengths and athletic capabilities to Newcombe

I absolutely love this pick. The chatter around his kicking and athleticism has been wildly overstated. Sharp is genuinely powerful inside the contest, and over the past year he has dramatically improved his outside spread.

What really excites me is how subtly brilliant he is in close quarters. He isn’t the type of player who grabs headlines as a flash-in-the-pan x-factor star, but the way he goes about his work is exceptionally classy. Clean by hand, fast of mind, and a distributor who sets teammates free in ways we haven’t seen at Essendon since the very best of Jobe Watson. Like Jobe, Sharp has the body and awareness to manipulate stoppages. His influence at the coalface might not always show up in the stat sheet, but it makes the onball group function far more efficiently. When he’s in a stoppage, the team clears the ball more effectively.

Off the ball, Sharp is a real asset as well. Unlike so many of our recent midfielders, he accelerates into defensive transitions. His chase-down pressure and tackling work show a grit and determination that will immediately endear him to teammates and fans alike.

And then there’s the leadership component, which is well documented. He has a presence on and off the field that feels like it could become a cultural anchor. Could he develop into a figure at Essendon akin to what Joel Selwood was at Geelong? I don’t think that is at all out of the question.

Sharp isn’t just a draft pick. He’s the kind of player who can lift the midfield unit and set a tone for the club over the next decade.

Had a nerd moment and decided to go back 12 months to see who the early favourites to be the top 10 in this year’s draft were. Sharp was number 1 with ESPN.

5 of the top 10 were correct and the other 5 had some completely drop away.

Had to adjust that, sorry

Is this a good or a bad thing? Apologies if bad :grimacing:
