He’s in our starting midfield.
In Round 1, he’ll be in the centre bounce. He’s already ahead of most of our mids.

This is gonna be the new “Shiel cost us 2 first round picks” or “we rejected 3 firsts for Merrett”.
On a proper close look he honestly looks much better than I assumed he was.
I kind of thought he might be a slight upgrade on Setterfield, or Heppell’s late career when he was a very honest straight lines type of footballer.
But:
- He’s way quicker than I thought, not that slow at all (thought obviously not quick).
- His kicking is decent, I saw him use his left a couple of times.
- He’s way more explosive laterally in tight and can move somewhat frenetically.
- And that’s before you get into his attitude/leadership which is exactly what we need to continue our rebuild.
This felt to me as one of the most foregone conclusion draft picks of ours in a while, very “safe” and boring, but I had that wrong - looks a beauty.

Wow that was a diabolical offer.
Even if they were offering their F1, without our F2 coming back, that would be unders for trading up in a draft.
Why would they even bother picking up the phone with such a junk offer lol.

This was the bloke I really hoped we would get. He’s been so solid, consistent and impressive for a long time.
