#15 Josh Green - delisted

I said mid season that we should be targeting Josh Green as he adds something that we lack, he would be cheap, and very getable. He also adds aggression which I think Woosha likes in his players.

Very happy that it’s come to fruition.

Good pick up providing he isn’t getting what he was asking for at Brisbane. He is a goal sneak with decent forward pressure and I reckon he will be there in round 1. TO THE BEST 22 THREAD

With all these decent moves lately, I’m really running out of things to complain about.

Lid off, baby, lid off.
This is an excellent get in my mind. Firstly, he's miles better than any of our current delistees, and we're getting him for nothing and he should be ready to make an immediate impact. Secondly, he fits a desprete need. Everyone complains about having no small forwards and he fills a need in our biggest weakness, whilst allowing Tippa even further flexibility to be thrown forward or back.. Him and Fantasia together as small forwards are going to cause headaches as both are proven goalkickers. Thirdly he's young, only 24 and you can write off this year as he was injured for the majority so he's still on an upwards curve.

The last 3 years of his career he’s kicked: 24, 33 & 25 goals from 17, 20 & 16 games respectively. That’s in a garbage team with a garbage midfield. Name me how many Essendon players have kicked this in recent years and I reckon you can count them on one hand. Give him an opportunity with a rising midfield and he can be a 30-40+ goals a year forward. The guy has great speed and if he keeps committed then he’ll be a fantastic inclusion.

Fkn concur

Wow. Strange days indeed.

I’m probably far too stoked about this considering it is Josh Green but this just seems like another huge goal for our recruiting team. The excitement Raz created this year was partly because he is a young gun AND partly because it was the first time we have had a true small forward in seemingly ages. Watching Raz actually crumb goals was amazing and when Walla went forward he also provided a bit of a spark in a game or two. That highlighted to me how much we were missing a true small forward (rather than just trying to rely on resting mid’s).

Josh Green is the classical small forward pocket that has a very good goal sense. I think he will be a perfect fit for our team providing they keep his ego in check and he works on his defensive aspects. Have him follow around Howlett and Walla during pre-season should sort that out.

I absolutely think he will be right in the mix for best 22 next year and should mean that Walla can stay on the half back flank and create drive from there. Also gives us the flexibility to give Raz some time in the middle.

Clearly our forward line was the biggest issue this year (and previous ten years) and I love the way that Woosha and Co. seem to be systematically working through a solution. We have seen Stewart recruited, now Green and likely Richards. That gives us instantly a 50% improvement in the depth chart compared to 2015.

  1. Josh Green??1?

Green would hardly getting what he asked for at Brisbane, seeing he has signed a one year contract - He’ll need to get in the AFL team early in the year or it will be a short stay at Essendon.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for a guy who has runs on the board as a small forward (and managed to do that in a rubbish side). One big plus from having Hooker front and centre is his ability to bring the ball to ground, which'll suit this bloke to a tee.
Tee off straight to the Green?

No he’s a Hooker.

Sure, why not?

I don’t mind this one, don’t see him as best 22 though.

This pleases me.

I reckon this is a great move. Will be alot of pressure for forward line spots next year, which is great. Actually having small forwards like raz, tippa and green that want to kick goals and might be selfish is exactly what we need. Those three buzzing around under the feet of hooker and daniher is tantalizing.

Good pick up. I wanted him in the 2010 draft but we went for A. Steinberg at 31 and Brisbane went for J. Green at 32.

very happy

Haven't had a ranga for a while.

Is a little prick, which is good.

I do. Him and raz in forward pockets could make a great combination
