#16 “OMG it’s Archie” Perkins

Watched him for a bit yesterday and he just looks disinterested out there and trying not to get hurt.

If he has checked out and wants a trade that’s fine, but at least have a dip so we can get a half decent pick in return.

Yep. I’ve often wondered if that competitiveness is something thats somehow hard to identify in junior players or if its something the club simply hasn’t rated highly enough.

Unless they are gingers.

Which, you know, is actually fair enough.

Can’t trust 'em.

He still likes him better than Rutten.

While that was intemperate of me and now many years ago, at least I spoke directly to that Ginger Megs and not like some Muppetts elsewhere

Seen a couple of his contests out on the wing which basically showed that his confidence is absolutely shot.
Brad doing him a disservice right now.

You don’t forget how to play, he just looks to me like a young player who’s confidence is at rock bottom. This is where the coaches really should earn their money. He needs to find ways to get into the game. He dropped a couple of chest marks this week he would have 99% of his career eaten. He looks confused and unsure of his role and to me that’s a coaching issue.

I’d hate for us to lose another exciting young guy that just hasn’t come on, as @Humble_Minion as pointed out, I’m really getting sick of that. I hope we can get around him and help him work through it

Even the SEN team commentating game on Sat were shocked with Perkins performance, I think Jordan Lewis said “wow I think he needs a stint in the VFL to get his confidence back”.

Brad Close is in a similar situation, just playing so poorly, some coaches persevere to get players through the slump, granted its easier to hide in a good side. Sometimes a coaches belief can be enough to turn the tide eventually but Archie looks past that.

Playing Tigers, do you give him one last crack or play a youngster, ADJ, Unwin, Smartt in the fwd line. Give them a crack.

He’s had about 6 last cracks already, would like to see Davey given one last opportunity to save his career.

Reckon that is true, but he is not still a young player in the scheme of current things, and young players like Clarke, Johnson and even Lual are ahead of him on his last performance. He has played nearly 100 games and it is his fifth season.

Lack of confidence is a big issue and add in his alleged groin problem, which may account for his lack of speed and his kicking does not have the same power.

Not a bad tonic for the groin

Hard to argue against that. I’d like to see Smartt or ADL given a crack.

Yep, play the kids and find some goalkickers.

This is a really really weird post.

Archie’s an enigma wrapped in a mystery sandwich these days.

He’s either checked out (and being tapped up by an oppo club), carrying a nagging injury e.g. a groin strain. Or its something personal and ongoing, deeply affecting his game.

If its 2, then he def shouldn’t be playing injured.
My bet is 1,3 and 2 in that order of possible reasons.
Because if its none of the above, what gives?

Many of you have forgotten that he was dropped last year because of poor form. His 2025 form is not out of the blue.

At this point it’s genuinely unfair to the players who perform in the vfl when guys don’t in the afl but get picked every week

That is borderline creepy

Maybe he’s just not very good/lacks the competitve instinct.
