#17 Todd Goldstein - don’t forget, he’s here forever

Get him into ruck coaching. Can still play VFL. Is worth something to the club but doesn’t belong on the senior list.

I reckon he has hit triggers for another year but the club is to coy to admit it as he is coooooked.

Yeah, the back-up ruck situation is a difficult one to fit. Phillips was the perfect man for the role because he knew his place, at times he knew he would be in the VFL and he’d get his call-up to the senior when needs arose. If Goldy does hang them up, you have to find someone from another AFL club that is either willing to come to us and be the 3rd choice, recruit a state league ruck who is happy just to be on an AFL list, or you get someone in that’s superior to what you already have and the likes of Draper and/or Bryan slip down the pecking order.

I’d be happy with Wright taking the emergency ruck role behind Draper / Bryan

Yep. Spot on.

There are plenty of third choice rucks available.
But they rarely move unless they can sure a spot as backup ruck.
So, I don’t think it helps to try and pry someone like Darcy Fort, Casboult, Pruess, Reeves, Teakle, Campbell or Max Heath.

In a weird way, we’d probably prefer to hang on to a cooked Goldstein and let him play through VFL (and become the specialist ruck coach) than get someone else who is taking AFL games from Bryan.

Reckon that is the right way. He is cooked but a very professional trainer and we don’t know how much he has helped Draper and Bryan this year - him paying in the VFL with Vigo under his wing could help fast track him. As also highlighted we have Wright as well in case we do need a ruck for an extended period so I don’t mind Gold being back up to Wright.

I think Bryan will play most games next year with Draper.

Yep, this is the answer. Bryan, Draper are one and two with Wright and Vigo battling out for the third spot.

Frees up a spot on the list that would otherwise have been taken by a journeyman ruck.

I’d rather look at trading Wright out and keeping Goldy another season. It’s a bad contract, he’s still got 3 seasons after this, look to clear some cap space and get some draft pick compensation in the door.

I would rather Wright be the backup ruckman than have Goldstein go round again. Keeping Goldy at this point is just a waste of a list spot

I don’t want Goldstein any longer. He’s done his 12 months of knowledge passing onto our rucks.
His age and games played, ■■■■■ up our age and games played averages and doesn’t reflect them accurately.

He’s got to go around again next season.
Only way to get a home game farewell

Must be about the most important stat in football

Who gives a ■■■■?

If he adds value let him go again, if not dont

Personally hope he remains in a coaching role, if he get another playing contract he should be vfl only, break glass in emergency type situation

Draper, Bryan, Wright, Vigo and potentially Cox.

Sure, give Goldstein a coaching gig. But for the love of God don’t waste a list spot on him.

“We think Todd will give Nick Bryan space to keep on honing his craft as #1 ruck in the VFL, rather than only getting limited minutes in the seniors.”

Is Goldstein too old to be Essingtoned, or is it a case of an old dog not being able to be taught new tricks?
Looking forward to hearing of a 2 year contract extension very soon.
