#17 Todd Goldstein - don’t forget, he’s here forever

The softening up started happening ages ago. It’s happening. What a waste of a lost spot. And it’s squarely on Brad.

Please, make it stop.

Retire big fella.

Draper and Bryan have gone past him. There is no reasonable excuse to keep him on the list.

He’s basically the specialist ruck on an AFL player wage (likely minimum).
We shifted Caracalla down to VFL coach (some here thought it was a promotion- farking LOL) in part to reduce Football Department spend so we could get a kicking specialist. I suspect we’ll be using the list spot and salary cap space for that again. Probably to get another specialist coach.

Hopefully, they continue prioritising Bryan and Draper can play out a full season without getting injured. As long as that happens, I’m fine him staying on the list.

Brad’s going to use the “we need experience amongst the group” and “Todd is such a professional” lines … bookmark it.

As for as typos go, this one is amusingly appropriate.

If we cant pay him a coaches wage…because we are worried about going over the soft cap. the whole system is a farce. Shouldn’t be having a coach taking up a list spot just so we don’t go over the soft cap. Penny pinching - pay luxury tax and use the pick to get a player who may turn into something.
If Draper goes down for the year, just add Goldy in the mid season draft.
If we were challenging for finals you could argue need to have him on the list. we didnt even finish in the top 10.

Correct.
We shouldn’t be in this spot.
But if we are (which indications are pretty much there that it is), then we use all avenues to gain an advantage.

A list spot is important, but Goldy can do both. Backup one of the others for an injury and mentor / coach. Unless there is an absolute gun ruck available late in the draft or as a rookie, I have no problems doing something like this.

Going into the season on the back of Bryan (developing ruck who is still working his way to be able to run out games well enough) and Draper (has missed 30% of games each of the last two years) in your 18 and Visentini a few years away would be a farking stupid list management decision in itself. 2MP is not a ruck and Cox / Jones aren’t either. Very few teams go into a season without a ruckman at VFL who has had multiple years developing at the very least. North Melbourne tried it and then when CCJ went down, they had to go to Teakle. Melbourne have tried it and I’d say they’ll be targeting a back up ruck this coming pre-season.
Hawthorn (the bastion of all things development) have had Ned Reeves developing at VFL for 5+ years and Ramsden who has now completed his third year. They also have Chol helping Meek out too.
It’ll be stupid of us to think we can do it when the rest of the league cannot.

As long as he’s not taking time away from Bryan in AFL, then I see no problem.

We need a lot of specialists coaches. Other clubs may cycle through specialist coaches depending on what their weaknesses are.
Him being on the list or as an assistant coach has nothing to do with where we fall on the ladder. It’s more about the learning environment through pre-season and through training sessions.

I was going through Cal Twomey’s 2006 Phantom draft

With Tom Hawkins retiring, Goldstein could be the last one left of the 2006 superdraft.

It was an interesting phantom draft to say the least!

Hahah!

Matt Bergan, Cal would have probably been 16yo in 2006

No more

That Hansens so hot right now!

All the old blitzers will remember that

Crazy hey? This place was so excited. We had Jetta and Hislop drop to us at 18 & 20.

2015 draft we had more
Parish, Francis, Weideman, Gresham, Redman, Hibberd (Mitch), Brown, Hartley, Snelling, McDOnald-Tipungwuti, Hams, Waterman,
Possibly Dan Houston if he comes

Morgan didnt play for us but did for Brad Scott

I still reckon Reimers was hard done by.

He had talent to burn. Nobody knew how to harness it.

He probably lost the playing group after his dog attacked another player.

I thought Tom Hislop was gonna be a superstar…….

He had issues prior to draft, was always a loose cannon, liked a drink walked into a club with a poor culture.

Reimers I thought had as much talent as Daisy Thomas…Everything lined up against the suns where he kicked a bag.
