#2 Big Sammy Draper (from May 2024)

I’ve heard the same. Your mate Scott.

So people are saying Draper is worth less than half of what TDK is?

Was he wearing a tie?

Yup not fussed if he goes along as we get good compensation

I’ve heard the opposite

As far as Draper going I would be unhappy,he is one of the few extroverts we have and is highly regarded by his teammates and has improved enormously.
Not sure how the Achilles will affect him though

Lol
He didn’t take Draper’s no 1 spot.
He was given it because we needed our number 1 ruck to play a different role.

It is.
But the salary he will be offered will also go up, as the cap has. Your expectations of his salary offers are under, because salaries have recently jumped.

In no world will Draper be offered less (proportionate to the TPP) than Josh ■■■■■■■ Battle.

Draper will trigger band 1. He shouldn’t. But the compo formula is off.

You’ve obviously never sold a dodgy car.

I think most people are saying the reported offer to TDK is freaking crazy.

I really would hate to see Draper go.
His 26 come from a non football background and is about to hit his peak.
This year he was making our forward line far more dangerous, whilst his ruck work is still improving.
He is one of the few players we have that can crash a pack & throw his weight around.
I can think of 10-15 players I would prefer to offer up this year to ensure we keep Draper.

Cal saying on FC that we have offered around 700k for four years and that has opened the door for Adelaide and Brisbane as Sam thought he was worth more than that.
Said a 900k offer would open first round compo also thinks it’s best for us if he does leave giving us five picks inside 25

The afl also loves manufacturing compo picks for struggling clubs

If this is true it has actually given me some hope that the club is on the right track and getting serious for once.

I think that offer is absolutely adequate and fair when you consider the actual body of work that Sam has put on the board. If he wants more and decides to leave then that’s completely fine. Stop over committing to guys who haven’t truly established their bona fides. Well done.

I’ve changed my mind a bit.

Want Sammy to stay

$700k a year for 4 years seems like a good offer for a Ruckman who has averaged 14 games a year over the last 5 years.

Yeah I agree fully if we don’t fold and stick to our offer it would be a turning point in the list management and tell me we are on the right track.
When we are trying to rebuild a list getting as much resources in as possible is paramount and this helps with that and I know people love him and I get the emotional response

$700 k offer over 4 years after the deal McKay, Parish, Ridley, langford etc signed on pretty much sums up what the current coach/recruit team think of him. Honestly if i was him id get the hell out of the club. There is a much better chance of success at Adelaide or Brisbane. Hopefully we dont ■■■■ up 1 st round compensation.

draper worth same as gresham?
fkin disgusting even without inflation
i spit on the ground i walk away

I was able to get along to about a dozen training sessions over the break (mostly the match sims) and I think I ended up having Draper as my top pre-season performer.

He was in ripping nick, marking everything & looking dangerous whenever he went forward. With Bryan another big improver it made for some really good ruck battles, so to lose both to LTIs really stings when they’d clearly set themselves for big years.

I’m a Draper fan, he’s an energiser with huge upside - if he recovers ok from the achilles, he should still have his best footy ahead of him IMO.

If 700K is considered a lowball and 900K gets you Band 1 compo, I think we’d take the early pick though and back in Bryan & Vigo, with 2MP & Gerreyn (May/Blakiston?) supporting.

Would be a real shame to see Sammy go but if it’s for a top 8-10 pick the club may see that as a win-win.
