Deja vu from the Adelaide game, except this time Zach made it count.
(Adelaide one was actually better but won’t be remembered)

His kicking has definitely improved. It was noticeable watching his two set shots: lower ball drop, letting the ball drop a fraction of a second longer and kicking through the ball. If he can do that consistently he can be a very useful forward target. He really is already with his ability to bring the ball to ground.
I think today was the blueprint for how he and Bryan can fit into the team together. Must persist with it for the rest of the season.
Was average for 3 quarters. Played a very good last 20m. Thats what we want more of - the last 20m. If you could bottle his good stuff for 100 of 120 minutes we’d have a player. He’s too inconsistent and turns it over way too often
this aged well
There’s contested marks and then there are contested marks.
It’s pretty clear he hasn’t got the tank to go alone all day, but he was massive late. Hopefully Bryan does that round the ground stuff for two of the first three quarters. He can also be that big body up forward. Then sub Nick out, the reason for which escaped a few toxic halfwits.
I thought overall his game was very good. Took some strong marks, kicked a good set shot and narrowly missed another. His ruckwork was pretty good, his tap that led to Gresham’s 3rd also as good as the one that led to the game winning behind.
I think his two set shots although a small sample, indicate he has been working on and had some level of improvement, in his kicking.
his approach and technique for both seemed fairly deliberate.
Quite a bit on today’s outing
Also, how good is Merrett still focusing. Redman had gone to sleep. Merrett’s like, “we haven’t done the job yet, spread”
It’s so weird that people keep saying this, despite all the evidence to the contrary.
Huge game from big Sammy today. We don’t win that game without him.
We literally won the game mainly due to a great tap from him
To advantage
Gresham goal v Adelaide
Last minute clearance v Adelaide
Merrett clearance v Freo
All taps to advantage
His kicking is not AFL standard. When he is on his game his tapping is good.
His marking and getting to the contest in the last quarter was excellent.
But he has to do all of the above more often.
he’s fast become one of our most reliable contested markers.
That’s not hard when you don’t have anyone else that can take a contested mark.
He absolutely pantsed a pretty decent opponent. He will fluff his kicks from time to time and I’m not sure he will ever be an elite kick but he went at nearly 90% efficiency yesterday and was top 5 for us in several key stats. The gap between his best and worst is what he needs to work on because if he can play more games similar to yesterday he will be a handful
To advantage
Same response as before
