They’re not begging for respect, they’re trying to earn it through deeds on the field. Like it or not, Draper’s shenanigans of late do undermine that.
More like Scott getting sick of the crap Drapes was putting on show for all the footy world to snigger at like they have been for 20 odd years. The Bevo thing was just a process.
Show respect and gain respect- a simple approach to conducting yourself in the AFL that isn’t too difficult for some to understand.
I don’t get the pile on. It wasn’t exactly breaking news that players at the Dogs were unhappy. It’s been rumoured ever since Daniel and Macrae got dumped to the VFL.
The only stupid thing about it is that Draper said it was a scoop. It’s not.
Media: players should show more character
Also media: OMG what did he say? That’s out of line!
Get a life.
I think some people should think then type, not type then think
The pile on is him being a currently active player commenting on matters at another club. How would you have liked it if say Paddy Dangerfield at the time of the ASADA shitstorm was on a podcast and said “I’ve heard that there are half a dozen Essendon players who want out”? Nobody is disputing what Draper said, it’s probably common knowledge within the industry. But you just wouldn’t say it and put it in a public forum…
Are you telling me that didn’t happen throughout the Saga?
Also, how would I like it? I couldn’t give two ■■■■■ what some yobbo mullet-wearing dumb footballer has to say about most things in life, let alone if he’s just parroting something he’s heard on the radio and presenting it as his own.
I’d rather Sam come out on a podacst and say “Yo, Bevo. You guys suck. You are the suckiest bunch of sucks who ever sucked. We only stopped scoring goals in that final quarter out of pity for how much you suck.”
Then I dunno, an ad for some gambling company cuts in or some ■■■■, that tends to be how sports podcasts work now.
I would hate them, and I’m ok for people to hate Draper.
But who gives a fk!
I certainly wouldn’t apologise for it.
Absolute snowflake city anyone being offended, upset or concerned by what Draper said. There may end up being a massive witch hunt in the media for Bevos head and the media won’t blink an eye.
It’s hypocritical BS
If another player came out and talked sh*t about our players and coach, this forum would lose its mind. The double standards here are weird.
How hard is it to understand that none of us really care that draper has that opinion, and most people have zero respect for the WB (fark peter gordon) yet damn well know you just cant go around saying that kind of stuff publicly. Whether you like it or not, it DOES bring scrutiny and considering we’ve had toilet bowl standards for years, its quite easy to see how this would annoy the club
Everyone bangs on about culture. These incidents do nothing for trying to change a clubs culture. The podcast stuff. The Adelaide stuff, and i have no doubt there’s more than what we know.
What’s actually brought scrutiny isn’t what Draper said.
It’s the misreporting of it, which Essendon has allowed to happen.
It’s the ambiguity of Draper not playing last week, which Essendon allowed to happen.
It’s the apology to Bevo, which Essendon chose to do.
It’s the public slap that the coach gave, which Scott/Essendon chose to do.
And now it’s the suspension of him from his podcast, which…I’m gonna go right ahead and assume Essendon chose to do.
So the club can be as annoyed as they like.
I’m sure if we’d lost to WC because Draper didn’t play, which almost happened and some believe was Also the club’s choice, they’d have been mad with him about that, too.
Dead Horse
Well, yeah.
That the club keeps resuscitating.
But hey.
Look at all that respect we’re getting.
No one will be talking about this in 2 weeks. The next manufactured AFL controversy will be ‘analysed’ to within an inch of it’s life and faux outrage will ensure.
Brad’s made a point (and reinforced standards), Sam’s copped a whack (even though he was role playing, it was still naive).
Coincidently, Pat Riley (Miami Heat GM) just gave NBA superstar Jimmy Butler a public whack for talking smack about the team that defeated Miami in the playoffs.
Memo to Sammy: “Don’t give the opposition any ammo to shoot back at us!”
Yeah, Sammy!
Jeez! Shut up about it!
sigh
He gave no ammo to the dogs players.
Whatever ammo that is supposedly generated manifested into them ■■■■■■■■ the bed against the Hawks which reinforced exactly what Draper had jokingly said.
Bevo is a dead man walking. The players don’t want to play for him, and if anything, what Draper said will either do nothing or just undermine the Dogs a little further which IMO is a fkn great result.
Pat Riley (correct sp) also put his entire org on notice, brad and vozzo haven’t
I’d argue that Brad has put the entire club on notice… he’s made several public comments about expected standards across the club and areas where EFC has fallen short. “AFL Lifestyle” being the most obvious.
nah pat called out spo, he called out herro, he called out the role plyers, he called out jimmy. He called out everyone by name, the only player he didn’t was bam, who was available and good all year.
Draper has had 3 coaches in 7 years at the club. He’s not really one to be taking shots at other teams that they aren’t playing for their coach.
