Kicking % stat is one of the most misleading stats in footy.
It doesn’t tell you how hard the kicks those players are going for.
Draper is a very poor kick, to dispute that is just blind argument.

Sure, but it’s still the same method that’s used for everyone.
I wasn’t disputing that Draper is objectionably a poor kick. I was disputing that he’s worst kick of any ruckman by the length of the Flemington straight.
And you can hate him all you like, but that’s simply not true.
Edit: and I consider the idea that any of the ruckmen mentioned above are more ambitious with their kicking than Draper…certainly a point of view!
You saved me on this haha thanks mate
Just a shocking kick and comparing him to other shockers doesn’t quite demonstrate anything.
Do you watch those other teams and take note of their kicking?
I dont so wouldnt know. I just know that kicking efficiency is an awful stat.
Comparing him to other ruckmen.
Seems reasonable to me?
Doesnt make him a good kick
It makes him a comparatively average kick, actually.
Edit: although I do find it kinda funny that I’ve heard we could replace him with a solid citizen like Soldo who is…objectively…the worst…kick in the AFL.
Wouldn’t touch Soldo with a bargepole.
But not sure you can use a single seasons stats (a whopping 8 games) to argue that someone is “objectively” the worst kick in the comp.
Especially when that same someone’s career average is a decent way ahead.
That said, Draper seems to have improved his kicking year on year. It’s not great, but it’s better than it was.
The stats will try to tell you he’s gone backwards since his first 2 years.
All this is to say that kicking efficiency is mostly a load of rubbish.
I ignored Campbell, Ladhams, Conway, Fort, Reidy (all worse than Draper) because of the low sample size.
Accidentally included Visentini.
I don’t think eight games is a low sample size, but it’s not like I’m cherry-picking here.
And I don’t think people would be saying ‘you can’t trust stats’ if it was Draper at the bottom of the list.
Regular training watchers have been glowing in their reports of Drapes. Make of that what you will.
I would let Draper go if:
It’s just better list management.
We already have enough picks to select such a talent if available.
We’ll have little say in the matter if he wants to leave as there’s not only go home factor but likely more $
Will sign with us according to Jon Ralph
Such a bad time to announce that if true. Right in the middle of a match he can get injured in.
?? It’s not like Drapes signed a contract at half time…
In fact it won’t be for weeks
So we just hand out 6 year deals like their lollies?
Welcome to modern football.
Happy he’s staying
