#20 Jacob “Keg” Townsend

We never picked Hartley, yet Hawks just signed him on for 2 years.

You’ve got me there, I guess.
It would be pretty impressive if everyone in our squad of 45 would be in their best side of 22, but I can’t honestly say that would be the case.

Obviously I had meant team*

Which still holds true that the large portion of our best 22 wouldn’t make theirs

But yeah instead of actually making a point that makes sense keep picking out the error I made

I did make a point
You disagree and made a counterpoint.
That’s fine.

I’m not particularly interested in arguing about richmond’s best side. This guy’s never been in it, and I can’t see him making ours.

I’m happy to have him, but my expectations are consistent with where those people who wanted him (Sheedy, Rutten, Cara) brought him in - basically the last spot available, as a rookie. Now, once you are there you have an opportunity, but really those people suggesting that he will wade straight into the lineup and displace the likes of Langford, Zaka etc seem to be in general those who would replace those guys with a can of sardines or empty chip packet.

He’s depth, but I’m happy if that depth turns into value. Just not expecting it.

He played in a premiership.

If Townsend and Guelfi are dangling from a cliff and you can only save one, who would it be?

he’d let them both fall… until Blitz steps in (and nice to see Townsend and Guelfi get on so well in the end)

He’d be too busy arguing with people to actually save either of them.

No, no, no, I won’t have it. He had that one good year in 2013-ish.

He’s a Richmond life member?

I know its fashionable to criticise Tom but to be fair, TBC has only been “bad” when the club insisted on playing him injured. But he was never the Gawn we see today. Certainly he never was Grundy. Grundy is a once in a generation player.

As I understand it, all living premiership players now have Richmond life membership fwiw. Its not like it entitles them to a prime ministerial pension, free flights and a serviced office in their own capital city.

Be cool if it did though!

Pretty sure Hardwick is a life member at Essendon and the Tiges.

If I chose to save Guelfi it would not be to preserve his wardrobe.

Id almost say Draper is the best ruck on both lists but hasnt played a game yet …lol.

Maybe JD comes in as second Ruck

True, but he’s not a Richmond life member playing for Essendon.

It’s not a bad thing, just an unusual quirk.

He was in Richmonds best team - the 2017 Premiership side and made a considerable contribution towards them winning the flag that year. He played well for the whole finals series.

l have just finished reading every post in this thread.
From the article above in post 169.
This is what he brings to the club, an uncompromising, take no prisoners type attitude, which we need a fair bit more of. Over to nackers, Jackie mihocek and the other regular training observers to see if he brings this to training and how it translates to our preseason preparation.

Fills a need. check.
Cheap pick up from rookie draft. check.
Tough in a contest. check.
Got a point to prove. check.

The ball is in his court. On a short term contract. If it doesn’t work ot and he is a bust, then he has cost us very little.

Welcome to Essendon, tiger Townsend, go get 'em.
