Haha yeah I wasn’t being literal, just having a laugh
Blitz: ZOMG why have we got all these mid career battlers still on the list. Delist all of them!
Also Blitz: ZOMG we just picked up a mid career battler! Great pickup!!
The people complaining about this are just as bad as the people saying he’s our savior. Literally got him for nothing and have list spots open. I can already think of blokes on our list that have played in recent times that he’s better than. If we end up delisting him in 12 months then who gives a ■■■■? He’s a small upgrade on one of the 11 blokes that left at the end of the season.
Can you stop behaving like a smart ■■■■? Go ahead and disagree, but allow people to have a different opinion on this than you. You are not the be all and end all of understanding on how football works.
That didn’t turn out particularly well for Jacob. I’m not sure what the rehab time is for a lost hip.
Question: If selections like Townsend, Cutler, Hibberd are “Rutten/Caracella selections” and we are supposedly now implementing a defensively minded Richmond-esque style (as has been widely speculated), why the ■■■■ is Worsfold still around?
$$$ and ■■■ covering
Take it to the Woosha thread! lol
Woosha is being used to allow Rutten to implement changes without a lot of the pressure a new coach will often face in the media. He is being used as a senior leader to help guide Rutten and co.
It’s great they we’ve addressed a deficiency with the Townsend and Hibberd pickups, but it’s hardly much of an investment. A rookie pick and a delisted free agent. Any chance Disco would address this glaring deficiency properly by investing a decent draft pick? The Townsend and Hibberd selections are papering over the cracks.
We’ve both been here 10+ years, you know the answer to this one!!
This year the club made it clear it was focussed on the tall weaknesses that we have and used the limited picks we had to invest it two good young prospects. They have flagged that next year they will address those other areas but for the short term they addressed those needs with experienced players.
While this situation should never have occured in the first place, and should have been addressed properly in previous years, the drafting/trading this year was the correct process imo. Next year will be equally important in drafting the right players to fill this void in our setup.
“Better than Jake Long” is a pretty low bar to set, but yes, he is better than him.
I just see this as a very, very short term move.
At absolute best.
He’s been in the AFL for 8 years, and never made a spot his. It’s pretty optimistic to hope that changes now IMO.
So why not throw a spot to a kid? (Admittedly there’s a good chance they won’t make a significant impact, but there’s some chance they will exceed. Take that chance!!)
To me it just points to, again, a club that doesn’t know whether it’s coming or going.
I’ve got no issue with drafting the talls, but picking two small forwards ahead of a big bodied mid was poor planning IMO.
I would’ve liked to see us draft a key forward and a bullocking mid with our first two selections. That they didn’t draft a big mid with any of our four draft selections indicated that Disco doesn’t rate these types of players.
Historically, the last time we went early on a big inside mid was Hislop in 2006 - 13 years ago! And we wonder why we finished the season 18th for contested possessions.
Learnings…maybe soft cap on coaching salaries.
He still has lots of experience and hopefully gives Rutten / Caracella a good go at taking the reins.
Also interesting when he took efc job…benefits was spending more time with family as not flying away every second week.
But now/last year with family moved back to Perth he is spending less time than when he was coaching the eagles.
I can see him going back to the Eagles in a Sheedy type role for them…Drive media exposure, Gee the supporters up etc. If he stayed in Victoria door would have opened for AFL jobs and more media.
Townsends and Hibberd only have to be better than Guelfi/Begley to get a game. It’s not unreasonable to think that could happen. I’m not convinced there would have been a better player in the draft at pick 56. I honestly think late draft pick players that stay on the list for 2-3 years and then get canned after never playing a game are worse than these sorts of players.
I’m optimistic we can get some good footy out of him in the forward line as he was pretty effective in Caracellas system in 2017.
Can’t see him as an inside mid at this stage of his career.

WTF? Ever heard of this Heppell guy.

Sure.
And I’m fully aware you get more of them than guns in the rookie draft.
But if that’s the only choice (which it’s absolutely not)? I’m still taking that choice.
Yeah. I’m not overly excited about this. I did watch him closely in his purple patch in 2017 (my GF is a Richmond jerk) and he was really good, i think he kicked 18-3 in 5 or 6 games? I think our new Richmond overlords must see some upside in him otherwise this really doesn’t make sense.
