He’s a VFL ruckman and backup for TBell if needed ffs. He’s insurance, nothing more. He doesn’t have to be able to do any more than be a short term placeholder. You won’t get a more skill full monkey for the peanuts he’s getting.
That seems pretty clear I think. He just doesn’t have the bulk, or alternatively the elevation, he needs to control his opponent and be in a dominant position to win effective taps
Yeah I get that. I’m not worked up about it. But id like to see us elevate Draper if tbell is unavailable purely to see if his tap work can translate to senior level. I’m less concerned about what he can and can’t offer around the ground
RACIST
I’d like to have a look at Draper too. But I’m not willing to lose games because he’s not good enough around the ground. I’ll trust the coaches as to when they think he’s ready. Hopefully we won’t need a backup, but if we do, choice is nice.
What if we lose games because Clark is pants in the ruck and we give up 10 goals from stoppages like last Thursday
Richmond won a flag with grimes rucking portion of the games.
If Belly goes down and we’re left with 2 inadequate choices, the mids need to work differently.
Stringer can play ruck if Clarke isn’t up to scratch.
RACIST
Yeah, I’m in the play Draper camp if belly goes down.
You really think that was all down to Clark?
I have this bridge for sale if you’re interested.
Like I said, I’ll go with whoever the coaches think is the best choice.
They are in a much better position to balance each one’s strengths and weaknesses than I am.
Obviously it’s not all down to Clark.
Anyway, all I’m pretty much saying is I’d like to get a look at Draper because I suspect he will be more effective in the ruck.
That premise could of course be entirely false.
Now where is this bridge of yours?
A bridge, eh?
I do need somewhere for all the pups I’ve been sold to run around.
This one will even cope with crocs.
Bids?
I’m afraid all I have are these perfectly ordinary magic beans.
Magic beans eh?
Interesting.
I’l just have to see what Ivan has first.
A cupboard filled with 15 years worth of dashed hopes and pent up frustration…
Hmmmm …
I already have more than 15 years of dashed hopes.
Don’t have too much frustration though, so that’s interesting.
I knew when i saw that there were 15 new posts in the Zac Clarke thread that most of them weren’t going to be about football.
I wish the AFL would provide more detailed Ruck stats, I’m sure they have the data.
Total hit outs is just the start. You also need to know, at a minimum:
- taps to advantage (with/without clearance)
- taps to a neutral position (restart)
- taps to the opposition(with/without clearance)
- total taps conceded
- taps to advantage conceded(with/without clearance)
- tap conceded to neutral position
- tap conceded to our advantage (with/without clearance)
-free kick in Ruck contest conceded/recievedYou could then break these down by throw ins, ball ups, centre square bounces and look at the rate of ball retention and scoring opportunity for taps to advantage and those conceded.
Before you can assess a rucks performance you need all of that and then you need to compare it against competing norms adjusted for his opponent.
My gut feeling was that Clarke didn’t do enough with his taps to make life easy for his midfielders often enough.
