2015 AFL Draft. Spoiler: We won

Whens combine testing?

probably about another month. It’s normally after TAC finals, but often conflicts with the SANFL GF.

Would be keen to see Riley Bonner’s testing…

If we get Pick 9 or there about for JC, I will be picking this bloke.

Jade Gresham (24/08/1997, 177cm, 74kg. Northern Knights)
Small midfielder/forward
AFL biography: Small midfielder/forward with elite speed and power. Excels at stoppages and is able to push forward and kick some important goals for his team. A member of the Flying Boomerangs in 2012, he won the Vic Metro MVP and TAC Cup coaches award this year. Averaged 23.2 possessions (76.7 percent efficiency), six marks and 5.2 clearances across five games at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, winning All-Australian honours.
“He’s had an outstanding year. At under-16 level he was tiny and he’s still only 177 centimetres but he just keeps getting better. He played every game for us last year and this year he’s just taken off. I think he only played 13 games for us in the end because of his Vic Metro commitments, but he was our best player, he won our best and fairest and he won the TAC Cup coaches award. He’s a natural, instinctive footballer and I know AFL is a lot more complicated with its structures and ball movement and tactics, but we just let him off the leash most weeks and said go out and play. He’s got a good sidestep, he kicks goals on the run and he’s like a coil. He goes to ground and bounces straight back up and is able to sidestep people because he’s bouncing up while they’re running past him. He’s not super quick but he’s got that sidestep and he sells the dummy all the time, he gets around guys like you wouldn’t believe.”
Peter Kennedy, Northern Knights talent manager

Sounds like a good player but his height will probably push him down a bit in the draft. The Caleb Daniel comparison was one of the first things I thought of too Deckham.

I know everyone compares Francis to Goddard, but I see a bit of a mini-Hurley about the way he appears to read the play and attack the contest. Is that reasonable?

from the limited youtube footage i have seen i reckon francis is going to become an absolute beast midfielder like fyfe. if he is on the table at 4 and we still have pick 4 and we don’t pick him i will be very disappointed. Parish for mine just looks like another skinny vanilla midfielder/flanker with average disposal. That is not a particularly informed opinion but that is what i see nonetheless.

I think we’ve been watching the same videos.

I assume the Parish one doesn’t really demonstrate his quality though, because he appears to be very highly rated widely. So I am assuming there’s something that I haven’t seen.

I think it’s possibly not right to consider him the best mid in the draft though as it appears Mills and Hopper also would have claims in an open draft. Mills 2014 highlights look like a classic inside mid who puts his head over it wins it and is creative, while also having outside athleticism. Hopper looks more like the bull at a gate type who just runs through and over anyone who gets in his way, and often is just forcing it forward from stoppages. But he also seems to kick goals.

Anyway, Francis. Appears to be competitive, powerful, reads the play well. Can probably play almost anywhere. I like.

Will be interesting how it pans out as more info becomes available.

Anyone else hoping Gold Coast snare an upset this week means we could get pick 3

Curnow could be a great option gives us two young Key Forwards

Sydney won’t give up top 4 and lose to GC at home.

Won’t need pick 3 to get Curnow I wouldn’t have thought. Pick 5 or 6 would probably do it.

WE might end up with pick 6 when the AFL gift FA compo to Carlscum and Brisbane for their 2 ruckmen.
Will not be happy if that happens and we miss Curnow, Parish and Francis

Will essendon bid pick 4 on Mills/Hopper to make swans/gws pay fair price?

Kreuzer will sign with Carlton soon.
Swans want Leuenberger but can’t offer more than 350k(?) due to trade restrictions. If he left for that it wouldn’t be enough to get a 1st round compo pick.

****patrick will do whatever he can to get carlton another 1st round pick and screw us, you watch. with that in mind he’ll probably gift Brisbane a 1st round priority too based on the mystery formula.

i am not confident of having pick 4 at all. all the more reason to trade it for prestia/treloar/bennell

Matty Lloyd : Darcy Parish or Darcy Tucker with our #1 pick.

Matty Lloyd : Darcy Parish or Darcy Tucker with our #1 pick.

yay, another skinny HBF

Listening to road to draft podcast - with peter Schwab (Lions)
Happy with No1 pick most likely go for a key forward. Schache
Happy with Ben Keays
Leuneberger goes as free agent for compensatory pick, don’t know where it will be
May Trade Aish & Redden (Jacks contracted to 2016) free agent next year hes thinking of moving, lions reluctant)
Is it better to get compo pick or trade year before free agency
Rich is a free agent next year, they hope to sign him before then.
Thinks stef martin could play another 5 years. He’s 29
will look at suckling - but may affect compensation for leuneberger
Tom Bell contracted to blues but is a queenslander so may look at him if he wants out.

Father son Eligibility should it be cut - NO 100 games right
draft age - 19 probably isn’t too bad if the afl want to lift it to this as then all players should have finished school,
rookie list - doesnt mind if afl get rid of it and have a live list of 44. as long as keep rookie B list for alternative talent.

That’s what I hate about the compensation system.

Its up to Merv Keane as Matty wrote this in the age about a month ago on the weekend.
Pretty sure Matty works at the academy still.

Walking away with either Francis or Parish will be a win for us.

Matty Lloyd : Darcy Parish or Darcy Tucker with our #1 pick.

Seems we’re into Tucker then. If Carlisle goes then he’ll be our pick for him.

Typical Essington. As if you’d waste a top pick on yet another half back flanker. What’s wrong with them? We’ve already got Hibberd, Gleeson, Dalgleish (no idea how McKenna gets a game and he doesn’t), Ashby, Browne, Goddard and Stanton rotates through there. Pointless selection. Next year would make more sense, so why this year when we have several glaring holes to fill?
