2015 AFL Draft. Spoiler: We won

Dalgleish (no idea how McKenna gets a game and he doesn't)

Obviously haven’t watched the VFL this year.
Too many people rating Dalgleish based on a goal in the NAB cup,
Truth be told, he’s probably had about 8 decent possessions since.

Matty Lloyd : Darcy Parish or Darcy Tucker with our #1 pick.

Seems we’re into Tucker then. If Carlisle goes then he’ll be our pick for him.

If he goes to Carlton, would that be the Geelong pick for Henderson? Currently about pick 9?
Just watched this Francis video on afl.com.au. jeez I hope we pick him!

Ummm… so what role does he play? The clips indicate we MUST pick him up, because then we can play a Hurley at both ends, but the players he wants to emulate do not match that.

(I know, a year in, we have no idea what the similarly-sized The Langford will be, but someone just give me a simple answer, please.)

Typical Essington. As if you'd waste a top pick on yet another half back flanker. What's wrong with them? We've already got Hibberd, Gleeson, Dalgleish (no idea how McKenna gets a game and he doesn't), Ashby, Browne, Goddard and Stanton rotates through there. Pointless selection. Next year would make more sense, so why this year when we have several glaring holes to fill?
Draft hasn't been held yet.

Fair point. Only reason I see him being spruiked is that they want someone else to pick him and have someone else fall.

Right… I assume that’s what you meant with your first post then.

Is Henderson really worth pick 9?

Without compensation picks included actually ends up being more Pick 7… And to answer the question probably not.

But I wouldn’t complain if that pick was then passed on for Carlisle…

Don’t think anyone in the Carlton list is worth a first round mate. Pick 9 for tucker might be too high?

Would be a win for EFC but just can’t see Geelong handing that pick over for Henderson only. Would need a player as well I would have thought

Or an exchance of later picks.

I would do a deal based

Carlisle and 22 to Carlton

Menzel and Henderson 1st rounder to Essendon.

Gives us 2 picks in the top 15 which is huge for a rebuild along with a talented forward crumber.

No players are going to agree to a trade to EFC. Not for a long time anyway

Listening to road to draft podcast - with peter Schwab (Lions) Happy with No1 pick most likely go for a key forward. Schache Happy with Ben Keays Leuneberger goes as free agent for compensatory pick, don't know where it will be May Trade Aish & Redden (Jacks contracted to 2016) free agent next year hes thinking of moving, lions reluctant) Is it better to get compo pick or trade year before free agency Rich is a free agent next year, they hope to sign him before then. Thinks stef martin could play another 5 years. He's 29 will look at suckling - but may affect compensation for leuneberger Tom Bell contracted to blues but is a queenslander so may look at him if he wants out.

Father son Eligibility should it be cut - NO 100 games right
draft age - 19 probably isn’t too bad if the afl want to lift it to this as then all players should have finished school,
rookie list - doesnt mind if afl get rid of it and have a live list of 44. as long as keep rookie B list for alternative talent.

That’s what I hate about the compensation system.

I hate everything about the compensation system. There should be no compensation as it disadvantages uninvolved clubs. It is meant to be a free agency system.

I am such a big fan of Aaron Francis. I know he isn’t exactly what our list needs and is not a Victorian but I honestly believe he will be a superstar. His reading of the play, aggresion, courage, aerial skills and kicking are elite. He has the ability to play anywhere, a characteristic that works in the moern game. I think he is better than Parish but seem to be in the minority on that one.

From the draft prospect vids on YouTube. He looks good. But could he transition into a monster mid?

i vote yes

If I was GCS I would be taking the picks this year to keep a healthy group even if you loose a few to trades next year. The mature age players won't be there for a tilt at a flag and it will add to the current crop for when their ready.

Francis should be our priority, we need a dynamic medium to tall forward. At 192/3 he is smaller and could be like stringer, also he could grow a couple of cms and be true KPP. But his game sense and athleticism mean he can influence up the ground as well.

If we take him with 4, assuming he falls to us, then we can go for a pure mid with 5, or offload 5 for two later first rounders and add another two high quality mids.

I’d be talking to the Suns and seeing which direction they are going and even doing a deal to Francis.

I’d rather Parish as I think we have more of a need. I think that we recruited 2 similar players with our first 2 picks last year. That said if we could get both I’d be pretty happy.

From what has been said he needs a bigger tank . From those that know , how far of is he in endurance ? Because what he can do is very impressive . With the interchange rules changing , a big tank will be even more necessary next year .
