Appears like McKernan will hold his spot on the list - why would you send him in for an Op and miss the reserves finals otherwise.
Somehow we have to keep Hams, he has improved out of sight and he & Hep A were brilliant in the first and last quarters today.
Hep A must be on an AFL list next year, just hope it’s ours.
Agree, with the hype on blitz about Holmes looks a rough diamond waiting to be moulded.
Trouble for Woosha and Co will be making sure there are enough list spaces available.
Not sure if Tom Wallis has done enough. Would use his rookie list spot on Holmes/Hepp Jnr.

Don’t disagree; however, I doubt Heppell will make it to the Rookie Draft.

I’ve only seen him a little, but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t. Blitz often over rates our VFL footballers. Of course, not always as Dickson, Campbell show.
I really hope we don’t wait till the end of the VFL season for delistings. It could be a couple of weeks still and the wait is holding back important decisions.
Also the players still have motivation to play well, given they will want to be picked up by other teams.

What the absolute fark, you channeling Brad Scott for laughs?
What important decisions? There are AFL sides still playing. There is no decision made right now that can be acted on, excluding delistings. Just let the lads play, and worry about list management when the seasons over.
Getting tired of people under-valuing the VFL.

Yeah fair enough. I guess i’m kind of anxious not to lose momentum with Dea, Kelly, HeppA, Holmes and the like.
List management is a tough gig.
The recruitment guys will know who is being delisted. They can make offers with that knowledge. Announcing it doesn’t change anything for them anytime soon.
And anyway, it is quite common not to delist until after trade week.

No, it’s not.
Not for me anyway. I pay my m/ship. and along with other members funding, they pay someone to do it for me.
Considering how well that’s been working lately, I leave it all up to them, seeing as they know more about it than anyone else.
That way, I can just relax, have a beer, and wait & see what they do. No muss, no fuss.
Of course there’s other ways to go.
You could fantasise over it, speculate on all sorts of things, then speculate on your, & others speculation, … get in a froth & bother, argue with other peoples speculation, and substitute your own ,etc, … all to absolutely zero effect, and less avail, having wasted a goodly proportion of precious time for nothing, when you could be socialising, having an ale, relaxing, fishing, kicking a footy with the kid’s, … but like, who the fk in their right minds would do that?
For those more well-versed in these things than I, how safe (or otherwise) are the likes of Morgan, Wallis and Eades? In the (admittedly limited) twos games I’ve seen the first two seemed fairly unspectacular.

Well Morgan and Eades still have a year to run on their contracts for starters. Unless we do an Austin Lucy on them they will be there next year. And to do that is pretty unfair and doesn’t send a great message to young draftees coming into the club.
Wallis being a rookie could in theory be cut from the rookie list as they are year to year deals, I believe.

They will definitely wait. It would be extremely demotivating to announce delisting of a player still playing football when there is no reason why it can’t wait a few weeks. The wait won’t hold off any decisions as they will have a pretty good view by now of where many players sit. The actual number of delistings though won’t be known until well into the trade period anyway.
I’d say that the only certain delistings outside of Gwilt are Kommer, Edwards and Hibberd. I’m sure there will be more though.

They’ve only had one year if I’m not doing that thing where my decomposing brain squeezes two into one, and that was mostly spent in the gym and rehab you’d think. Crazy business to change the locks on them this early on.
Aaron hepp is only 21 so we should pick him up in the national draft

Absolutely.
Is Eades definitely contracted for 2017? Hasn’t it been stated that Brown and Hartley both only had 1 year contracts because that’s an option for guys picked later in the draft. Eades was picked after Brown so presumably it’s possible he only had a 1 year contract as well.
I think it would be harsh to flick a guy from the main list after 1 year, but if he’s only contracted for this year then it makes it more of a possibility.

1 year contracts are for older players and previous AFL players, where they’re taken in the draft is irrelevant. Eades will have the standard 2 year draftee contract.
Was almost gonna start a new thread for the exact same thing, lucky I had a look before I decided to post
As it currently stands we have 5 players on our rookie list – Hams, Long, McKenna, Nyoun and Wallis – I would say that all 5 will remain on the rookie list with the possibility of a few more players being added through the draft (Aaron Heppell could be one)
As for our senior list, as it stands now we would have 36 players out of a possible 40 (Gwilt delisted and Hibberd traded) for purposes of this thread I am saying that Jobe Watson commits to another year, possibly 2. I’m also going to back the whispers that a contract for Matt Dea is as good as done and as far as I know Jobe could be classified as a veteran which would not tie up a senior spot so we are back at 36 out of 40 senior listed players
The following senior players are currently un-contracted for the 2017 season – Ashby, Dempsey, Edwards, Gleeson, Kommer, Laverde and McKernan.
Presuming that we will end up with a minimum of 3 draft picks within the first 2 rounds this year and are showing interest in the likes of O’Meara etc. then some of these players may have to go.
The question I asked was who out of the above 7 players would we not find a possible improvement for in the draft or via trade?
Laverde would be a no brainer to get a contract extension, I thought Gleeson showed some good signs this year and could still get better as his body matures and I would give McKernan one more year as we lack ruck depth if Bells or Leunberger get injured. Nick Kommer is another one who you could probably flip a coin on, but presuming that he goes into next year fit and healthy I would give him a year extension also.
With that said it leaves Jason Ashby, Shaun Edwards and Courtenay Dempsey on the chopping block who in my opinion I would not offer extensions to.
Would theoretically leave us with 7 senior spots free and significant salary to play with as we try and consolidate our list and plan our next premiership run.
I’m in favour of offering Jamar a one year contract while he oversees Gach’s development.
He has proved useful at AFL level and seems to be fully hitting his straps now in the VFL. After time out of the game and a late start this year, if he can hold up as the no.1 ruck in the VFL finals, he would provide high class ruck back up next year, I believe, while providing in game coaching for Gach and excellent protection for our precious young developers.
We’ll know a lot more about Gach and Belly at the end of next year, and we may have 3 genuine rucks for 2018 to go on with, post AFL Jamar.
