We might have to extend out the end of the trade period to before round 11 as if we stick to those dates it would kick off on the 28th and end on the 2nd due to compressing all the games and byes. Of course a short trade period could be good to try maybe?
Another issue is virtually no time between rounds which would make adding players to lists more difficult.
For example Essendon end out round 10 Friday night and round 11 kicks off Saturday afternoon.
Not sure how all that will work with UF lockouts etc.
Given the nature of the AFL fixture over the next month we will be reverting to lockouts on individual games only. At this stage signing of free agents will be cutoff each week before the first bounce of the first game on Friday night - although this point is subject to change.
With regards to our trade period, my proposal is that it opens now and closes at 6pm on Sunday 8 August. A time cutoff seems more relevant than a round cutoff with the way the fixture is structured. Once a trade is completed the player will become eligible for his new team the following round.
Given the announcement by the AFL on when team selections will be released a rolling lockout will definitely be in place. Still figuring out how to best handle free agency.

Not sure how I managed to have 4 ruck eligible players featuring two rounds ago who have all managed to find their way out of their respective sides with injury or form since. It was lucky that Brooksby was available at FAs so that I could field someone.
Very bad week for me. Not only having plenty of sub par performances, also dealing with plenty of outs of 1st teamers: Rockliff, Tomlinson, Pendlebury, Houli, Breust, Dahlhaus & Kreuzer. Def hurts on the double up rounds.
With what looks to be a very tricky fixturing period coming up - with the prospect of more injury and also awkward FA dates - what do coaches think of the idea of throwing open list positions 31 and 32 to all, irrespective of LTI situations?
I’ve been running through the repercussions in my head and I’m unsure if it helps or just delays a potential problem.
It would obviously immediately clean out the FA list to a large extent, but in theory with 32 players on your list you stand a better chance of avoiding donuts , especially with a rolling lockout to aid last minute selections.
I think we’ll see more debut’s and player management from clubs so there will likely still be a new crop of named players for a FA draft each week, but we may be able to get away with keeping it to one night - perhaps make it the night following the final game of the round rather than a set Thursday. Coaches will still run into difficulties due to not all sides being named at time of FA, but you’d have the bigger list to somewhat offset that - depending if you opt for depth or potential. That’s the coaches choice/strategy. The larger list also means you may be able to keep a player you’d otherwise have to ditch through a difficult period.
If/when fixturing returns to a more normal weekend based round of footy, you’ll have to trim back to your 30.
I think we’re facing a chaotic period as of now no matter what we do, so you can always leave it as is and just see what happens. It’s a year of luck anyway.
I’ve had a brief discussion with Red, and we are Open to thoughts.
