2020 Marsh Community Series - less interesting than soft drinks

I was a regular in places like 10/4 & Invaders in the city & it was amazing watching some of these “masters” dominate particular games. I never spent the $$ to get good at Dragon’s Lair but loved watching the guys who could get through to the end (that game was $1 when most others were still 20c). Its also amazing to think that even back then there were cheats & glitches to exploit in some games. I remember Wonderboy & Bubble Bobble had cheat code sequences to get extra lives etc.

Remember Big Charlie Bubble Gum??

… and then when it slowly became very little Big Charlie??

Sunnyboys, used to love crunching them up as a kid.

IIRC the competition was that the sticks would come marked and if you got the right sticks you would get a prize. I still have 3 Admiral Akbar figures as a result.

For reasons I cannot recall, I had exactly one tazo, and it was that Pepe Le Pew one.

In my Uni days one of the Electrical engineering students rigged up a switch inside the side of a Donkey Kong machine (when the service guy accidentally left it open). When it got locked again we could run a magnet along the side of the machine and it would flick the switch and give us free credits. Many of us became very good at Donkey Kong.

Also loved a good craze, I remember pop balls, slap bands no idea why they were popular but you had to have one.

My arcade playing days were a bit later. Street Fighter 2, was the all time favourite. But I also remember loving a Simpsons and a Turtles arcade game. Both 4 player side scrolling games that were awesome if you had 4 good players.

T2 arcade cabinet with the machine guns anyone? That was the business.

Yep loved that.

It’s weird looking at the timelines of arcade games I played. Global release dates really don’t have much to do with when they showed up in corner stores in suburban Tasmania.

Anyone else try to collect the cards that initially came with these things?
