2020 round 4 vs Fark Carlton - here’s the team

Pretty sure he was in defence for that game. Classic gif nonetheless.

Wonder if the coaching staff learnt their lesson to stop bombing it to Carltons spare

LOL… a decent game from Eddie (always gets overrated coz he’s a fan fave) and we need to sacrifice one of our best mids to go down back… kidding yourself.

Eddie has been bang average for years now… admittedly coz he’s 34

I back Saad to do the job on Eddie

Yeah I really hope Harves doesn’t just keep kicking it to Weitering…

Wow…

Cutler in doubt with calf according to Sam Edmund.

Bring in Ham.

He should be in before Cutler anyway

Wouldn’t surprise me if that was the case yesterday and Essendon just want to mess with Carlton and keep them guessing.

Would be rapt if the change was Ham for Cutler.

Betts currently averaging 1.5 goals a game, and has only ever averaged that low in one year over the last 11 years and that was in his last year at Carlton. Definitely needs to be watched, and is not a pelican but not a massive threat these days either. Saad will take him, keep him quiet and hurt FC the other way.

Saad kept Eddie to about two useful touches last year.

Thinking of Eddie and Saad, I think back in horror to that 12 goal effort by Fark LeCras. This is 2020. surely that could not happen ever again.

Was it Slattery the played on Lecra?

Actually I think it was Hocking

How Heath Hocking was played as a defender was abysmal :man_facepalming:

“But,but Knights was a good coach”

He played defence in his final years at VFL level also

As I said about Drapes, I reckon it’s more due to the circumstances than by design.

With Draper (ACL) Ambo, (PCL), & Stewie (OP), would all normally come back slowly with VFL minutes, working up to a full match before being available for selection. Without that prep avenue available, my guess is they are being rightly careful/conservative about bringing them back up to readiness.

At VFL level. Yep.
Granted, I’m sure a lot of that night was to do with there being bugger all defensive pressure being applied by the midfield but he eventually found his rightful spot as a tough on baller/tagger.
We really battled for decent lockdown small defenders in that era so they probably didn’t have a heap of options.

There inlies a big issue for esp us.
the longer you take to rotate players in this environment, the more the perception they won’t be up to sratch grows, so therefore it’s almost a self fulfilling prophecy.

but what happens if we don’t lose a game for another 2 odd weeks ?
that’s 2 extra weeks say an ambrose hasn’t had a match potentially, but someone plays a bad game and then the coaches decide to drop a player.

I know you aren’t saying it or advocating it, but i’d hope the coaching staff realise, this year above any or all others, you simply have to rotate the team on a frequent basis.

Eddie is also pretty good at stopping Saad’s offensive run, especially with no McKenna.

Having said that, we don’t have to run everything out at pace when we can hit targets with players like Ridley kicking forward.

Saad is the best small defender in the comp. He should and will go to Betts, then Saad can also hurt him going the other way

Betts is useless when he has a defender who is quicker than him.

Saad should play on him, and touch him up.
He’s bigger, faster & stronger. And never gets beaten in a one-on-one.
