How is free agency working this year? What day?
Given we only have the fixture for rounds 2-6 and every one of those weeks except round 6 has a Thursday game, Iâd be suggesting that waivers should be midnight on Wednesday night to minimise the need for redbull or anyone else to have to process requests manually. The negative of this, is that we would only have teams for one game.
Last year we ran midnight Thursday night, with FAs open after that until game time. That was however when we still had teams for most teams Thursday night for at least part of the season. Personally I donât see much benefit in Thursday night.
The other logical option for me if we donât go for Wednesday night, would be Friday night, where at least we would have teams for all Saturday games available. The negative of this would be that it would require someone to accept FA requests via PM for Thursday and Friday games (unless UF has some functionality Iâm not aware of).

Thanks Melky. Iâm still not sure how to run it. The balancing act is making it as automated as possible but also giving coaches the best chance to fill their squads.
The Wednesday night cutover may work for restricted free agents. It will give everyone a chance to pick up anyone missed from the previous week as a restricted free agent. We could close off picking up unrestricted free agents at the start of the first match on Saturday.

Guessing here but are restricted FA those who coaches have already placed a hold on? Unrestricted just completely free?
This is largely spot on yes.
If you were to go to the âPlayer Marketâ on UF currently, you would see that all players are listed as Restricted FA (Mar 25), which just means that they are currently restricted until the end (ie midnight) of March 25 (Thursday).
While they are restricted, you can lodge a claim to take any of these players, but that wonât be processed until the date listed (which at this stage is midnight March 25).
These claims would then be processed according to the restricted free agent (RFA) order, which you can find on the right column of our ladder on the UF landing page for the league. This order is based on the draft order from last year (ie smooth first and ivan last) and will be updated based on claims.
So if I lodge a waiver claim (also called restricted free agent claim) and am successful I would move from 11th in the order back to 18th, and this process would be followed for any other players âclaimedâ before Thursday night.
Then after that date, other players become free agents and can be picked up by anybody up until their clubâs AFL game time for that week. And picking up someone as a FA importantly does not impact the RFA order, so many coaches choose to save their waiver claims for a player they particularly want

So for week 1 - free agency will work as follows:
-any players playing on Thursday night can be obtained by sending me a PM by midday Thursday. Selections will be based on priority order and if successful you will move to the bottom of the queue.
-all other players will remain as restricted free agents until midnight Thursday. You need to make selections for these players on UF who will allocate them according to Again priority order
-after these allocations all players will be unrestricted free agents until 7.30pm Friday - meaning you will have access to Saturdayâs teams.
-for any named players on Sunday you will need to submit a PM to me before 11am Sunday - again allocations will be based off priority order
As you can see itâs fairly involved. However this is based of what we did last year and we will amend the process from Round 2 onwards.
