could end up with 2/3, 3,/4, 4/5.
If Merrett leaves?
Would you say he plays like Robbie Gray? Great replacement for Raz.
First, I want Merrett to stay. But if he goes we would certainly force a trade. He’s a far more certain prospect than the injury risky Daniher. So I’d expect 2 firsts or a first and two seconds.
We also want to be trading for 2022 fairy dust points.
Could end up with something like:
Out: Merrett, 2022 first.
In: 2021 first x2, 2022 second x2
That would give us 3 firsts in 2021 and a bunch of points to take the Davey twins.
Yep a bit like Robbie Gray, not quite as much power but better skills and pace on the outside
Unless he chooses the pies who haven’t got a first rounder
“We match your offer, not our problem you traded out your first rounder. Work something out.”
Pops 3 sets of jacket collars and suavely walks out.
Doubt Merrett will leave.
If we lose Merrett, Arlo and the best outside/wingman who has elite skills and the speed/endurance combo would be a great outcome, @THE_DON1 any names stick out?
Getting another dynamic medium-sized midfielder and a genuine elite modern wingman would certainly help balance our midfield mix. And you’d bet that between Archie and potentially 2 early-ish picks in 2021 we’d have at least one genuine gun onballer.
And whilst losing our best midfielder over the past 5 years would suck big time, but it would open our TPP up considerably to make a play at some elite players who could fill roles we’ll likely have.
I still honestly believe if we’re really ■■■■ in 2021 and finish bottom 4 (I don’t think that will happen) and Merrett decides to leave, if we get first round compo we won’t match for 2 picks. Eg pick 4 or 5 compo… that is better than getting say picks 10 and 11 anyway.
Depends on the draft pool. If the elite talent extends to 15, then take the two picks. If it’s like 2020 and the elite crop are the top 5, then take the top 5 pick.
I suspect 2021 is a good year to have many first round picks, even if they are around 10-15.
With on the night trading we could just take the compo and sell it to the highest bidder, there’ll be plenty of interest in getting top 5 picks next year.
Tyler Sonsie sounds like a cross between Tyler Durdin (Fight Club) and Keyser Soze (The Usual Suspects).
I’m not sure what that means.
I thought Saad was less of a chance of leaving. Also thought Daniher was zero chance of leaving, but hey, WTF would I know!
You said it.
So would the most direct effect of this be that the normal period where the gun players are missing and other kids get a chance (both to play and to shine) will be gone? Any other significant impact?
How will the timing interact with Year 12 exams?
Under 17s carnival is actually quite good, as give you a good look at upcoming players the year before there draft and not competing against older players…
Unless the best 17 year olds will be playing in the under 19’s…
Isn’t the U19’s effectively the U18 comp this year, since anyone who didn’t play this year are being allowed to play?
yes
Hopefully it’s played after SANFL finals
