2022 FF Original Discussion Thread

I’m sure you’ll be more than fine drafting JHF though.

For my list, anywhere in the top 4 or 5 probably isn’t hugely different.

Just gone through the team lists and made out a wish list, of which I’ll get precisely zero players.
12 coaches on it.

Hey @Blummers32 . Definitely want to challenge the Fyfe call. Spent significant periods forward last year. Couldn’t kick straight but was still there. 15 games. 21 shots on goal. That’s despite starting last season in the middle. Second half of last season he was essentially a forward that spent time in the middle.

No dramas. He’s on the list.
Just to confirm, you want him to go from C to FC.

Perfect
Cheers

The benchmark to hit for an automatic position change was 6 games this season.

West was the closest but only played 5 at AFL level, so he couldn’t hit that benchmark. 4 of his 5 were as a forward or FC, but his 4 WAFL games were all midfield.

Finn did finish the season down back, but he started the year as a midfield tagger at VFL level, whilst his sole starting game at AFL level was as a FC. I had him down as 8 games (FC; 4C; 2CB; B)

Here is Sam Mitchell’s assessment of his season:

Jed only played 7 games (1 injured by half time) and started the season as one of their 4 inside mids. I had him playing 2 games as a forward in his final 5 games.

CBA Breakdown:
Rd 2: 14 from 22
Rd 3: 10 from 34 (half)
Rd 19: 5 from 33 (F)
Rd 20: 10 from 18
Rd 20: 16 from 24

Rd 23: 11 from 24 (FC)

Here is the list of unchanged players for people to browse and nominate.
The generic answer for why is player X, that I saw playing predominantly midfield last season, not a pure C, is they need 2 seasons as a mid to become a pure mid, so it was either their first season as a pure mid, or they played 6 or more games in their other position in 2020. In some cases they played 6 games in their other position in 2021. I’m happy to provide specific reasons for players though.

No need to be petty. I’m pretty sure there is a strong chance of you continuing Vandrs’ legacy, which was not as you described, but rather was a tradition of submission, humiliation and misplaced hubris.

@redbull
Are you Hamish’s Team?
Just need to update the FA thread and my excel sheet.

Sorry fellas.
My weekend was a little distracted from all things DT.
I’m just going to extend this deadline to Wednesday 11pm AEST. I’ll send the PM and instructions by midnight.

The only people I can gather who may have missed this post @The_Mad_Bomber or @You_Shall_Be_Smoten.
I think everyone else has at least entered the league on UF.

I’ll double-check, thanks for the heads-up

Had a couple of people in my (real life) team leave so very busy at work

Happy to give you Tom Hird and Nick Holman for a couple of late round picks, not much good on field so a bit of real life work for them could be beneficial

Hi all.
I was about to send the PM for player positions, but I cannot find fogdog.
Anyone know what’s happened? Maybe I missed something.

What’s the reasoning behind a group PM for everyone to see each other’s votes? I’m all for transparency but also think publicly voting can influence others too.

Doesn’t effect me at all so I’m fine either way just curious about the thoughts behind it.

We were trying to work out the best way to do it.
Even a post with a poll was thought about but too complex to restrict to only a small group of users (we wouldn’t want nino voting on this stuff). That also doesn’t allow for anonymity.

It was worth a trial given the usual small number of players up for position change before the season begins.
The one advantage is, it doesn’t need a reminder throughout the week as everyone gets notified when someone gives their vote.

It might just switch back to individual PMs run through the FF Free Agency account. Dunlop and Allblack can access that account whenever they want.

I noticed there’s also a league poll on the UF website, but we have to upgrade the league to do it. I haven’t noticed before but that may be able to allow for some anonymity with voting.

I take your comment about influencing the vote. I’d say under the anonymous system, you’d have more ‘don’t know’ votes, whereas under this one, you’d have some following the rest of the group.

If anyone else has some thoughts on the process, please comment.

FYI…
I vote my positions based on CBA stats I have access to. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take into account whether the player was coming off a wing, so it is flawed.
But I have barely watched many other teams since covid and when I do, I’m usually focussing on my own players and whether they can be up for a position change.
I don’t have the time to read BF either outside of my own players and prospects.
The heat maps used to be handy as well to get a general gauge of where a player was playing, but I don’t think they are available anymore.
