Calling it now, I think Setterfield will be the bargain pickup of the year.

He’ll surprise a lot of people given he’ll be afforded every chance as an inside mid. Blues have been playing him out of position.

I tend to agree with that in principle. At Farkcarlton he was never going to replace Cripps & they also had other bigger bodied mids around. At EFC he’s literally the only genuine mid we’d have over 6ft. He could easily make a big difference based on that alone. I reckon our midfield even looked more complete when Clarke had the odd appearance in there a few years back. No idea where his injuries & fitness are at but IF he’s available for some late pick & it doesn’t impact the bids for Davey then its a no brainer for me to give him a shot.

You have to wonder about Dunkley choosing Brisbane when most of the picks will go on F/S in Ashcroft and Fletcher - I doubt Dunkley or Pickering correctly read the room.

My only worry with Setterfield is when Cripps was injured he didnt play in his natural position may need some patience which blitz doesnt have.

Jack Bytel would be worth a look with less senior exposure/injury history but potentially better upside if we are looking for inside depth.

I would have Bytel low down on the list give his injury history.

He will show flashes but be inconsistent.

Think Setterfield (Dunkley Lite) for a third round pick is better value than Dunkley, given what Dogs are asking, no doubt he will go for a packet of chips in the last hour of trade weekz

All this talk of a hypothetical Shiel trade and the club’s so called reluctance to cut him loose is so farcical it’s hilarious.

For what we have invested in him to date no club would ever come close to putting up an offer that’s worth considering.

and thus this is the dodo thinking. you have to “win” the situation to be relevant and if you don’t win it it’s not worth it.

it’s also a continuation of the thinking “we’ve spent a long time, money and picks making this mistake, lets stick to it” just cos.

We don’t “need” a mother of all deals that “comes close” to covering the outlay that was initially outlayed for him.

What we “need” is to not be bogged down in the thinking that the past decisions of the club and specific people at the club has to be a noose around it moving forward.

Worth considering doesn’t have to be a mother of all deals or even a win just something that justifies moving him on. We can still develop with or without him as a starting mid or even in our best 22.

We don’t have a salary squeeze so there’s nothing stopping us honouring his contract. So I repeat forget the hypotheticals unless there is genuine interest in another club stumping up something of value then just move on already.

most of the board is based on hypotehtical situations, if that’s you issue, you’re prolly in the wrong place.

and my hypothetical was based around the mentality “we might as well keep them all cos you know injuries” in response to me saying they are scared to make a decision and be judged on whether it works out or not.

You make plenty of assumptions about our list management strategy yet have nothing but speculation and theories to back them up.

We stuck with the Worsfold-Rutten strategy as long as we could until results and subsequent unrest meant a change in leadership was demanded. Do we need fresh intel within the list management department, 100%. But suggesting we refuse to trade senior players because we won’t consider the option of not “winning” a trade or can’t accept our past list strategies have failed is bullshit.

We won’t trade our stars because currently they are worth more to us than any firm offers on the table. Full stop. Anything else is nothing but a post season wankfest.

think it is a reference to the amount of guys that stick around for 5-6 years before a call is made.

Carlton has been moving on a few players since SOS gone and him having a connection due to drafting them. Whereas the new list manager will
not.

There is clearly a benefit in having a new person look over the list. It is unclear whether they will
be as good as Dodoro but won’t have any baggage to make hard calls.

We have only 6 players with over 150 games experience (which is a tiny number, in the context of the league)
