Now that was a draft pick, it’s hard to argue with Disco’s form in the MSD or the SSP.
But if the well is dry, maybe we are better at looking at bringing Jayden Davey off the LTI list and getting some VFL game time into him when he is ready.

Been a few handy players originate from the three Mid Season Drafts that have taken place since 2019. They didn’t have one in 2020 due to COVID.
I’d rank them along the lines of:
- Jai Newcombe
- John Noble
- Sam Durham
- Ash Johnson
- Marlion Pickett
- Will Snelling
- Ryan Gardner
- Patrick Parnell
- Massimo D’Ambrosio
- Jye Menzie
Apologies to Jai Culley who I think will be a really good player but he was only just starting to really show something in the game or two before he did his ACL.
Other guys to make some sort of impact include Cooper Sharman, Jed McEntee, Matthew Parker, Brynn Teakle and Ned Moyle looks a great prospect but only played the two AFL games. I also really rate Josh Carmichael at the Pies but it’s strange that despite banging the door down at VFL level he can’t get a game. Thought he was good last year in a number of games coming on as sub.
I know a lot of the state league clubs don’t love the MSD but I think it’s been a worthwhile innovation.
Oh, and Marlion Pickett as a Premiership player is potentially ranked a bit low but meh.

Any chance we take Narkle?
No thanks to Narkle. Does ok in the two’s without really dominating or demanding a promotion. He obviously stands out at times but not enough IMO.

Former Geelong midfielder Quinton Narkle has interest from clubs including West Coast and Essendon but might need more clubs to clear mid-season draft spots to be given another chance.
Narkle is working as a player development manager at Essendon while he plays VFL for the club, and has always had an ability to win clearances at will.
He is in good condition and hopeful of another chance as clubs consider whether to move more players onto the long-term injury list ahead of next week’s draft.
West Coast has one selection but could clear the room for two more for the May 31 draft, while Essendon has a single spot and three players on their radar.
So it will be a nervous wait for many players including Narkle, who is averaging 4.6 clearances a game.
We had the chance to list him earlier in the year. Why didn’t we?
Richmond are the real risk, I reckon WC have too many other issues to address with their first pick.
Ash Johnson can play, I reckon he’s a gun. Some good payers on that list.

He’s ok. I don’t think he’d be doing anywhere near as well if he wasn’t playing for Collingwood (or another top team).

The Bombers hold their own first, second and third-round picks, which means their finishing position will determine where they land in the draft order. Key defensive posts have been a weakness when injuries have struck this year, but Essendon has picked up Zach Reid and Lewis Hayes in recent drafts. Reid’s younger brother, Archer, is a top key forward prospect in this year’s draft pool.
Who to barrack against: The Bombers only hold one draft pick linked to another club, with that being a fourth-round selection tied to Sydney. That was handed over as part of the Aaron Francis trade last year.
**Mid-Season Draft Latest:**The Bombers left one list spot open after electing not to choose a player through the pre-season Supplemental Selection Period. An immediate need for Essendon is another key defender. The Bombers have been linked to former Melbourne and Carlton defender Oscar McDonald, who is 196cm and has been starring in the VFL with Williamstown. Mutaz El Nour, a versatile and athletic 192cm defender who is with Richmond’s VFL side, will also be closely looked at. Another medium defender, the 188cm Jack Cleaver, has been solid for Essendon’s VFL side since being overlooked for an SSP spot earlier this year. Inside midfielder Mitch Szybkowski, who also trained with the Bombers over pre-season, is another player to have nominated for the mid-season draft.
