The thing that stunk about the Kelly trade was that he demanded to only get traded to West Coast. Iirc Freo we’re offering a top 10 pick for him but he refused to go there

Its funny how they continue to say that there is a “formula” for free agency compo. If that was legit then as soon as the paperwork comes in they would be able to punch in the numbers and get the compo straight away instead of taking hours to pull something out of their ass

Like every other player that’s ever requested a trade?
On top of that a lot of the caring responsibilities would have fallen to his partner, while he’s consumed with footy, so it would likely have been pretty full on for her while she was isolated from family and friends back home. The club can help but for some people it just won’t be the same.
While the argument was made earlier that many others around the country have been in the same situation, a lot of those people would have more freedom to move nearer to family without their work vetoing it.
Edit: and agree with the argument that players wanting to move for family reasons should just nominate the state, or be more flexible there.

I was meaning that you can’t blame Geelong for holding Kelly, when he’s requesting a trade for “compassionate reasons” but is only wanting to deal with the reigning premier who doesn’t have a top 20 pick in the draft.
Plenty of players talk with other clubs before they request a trade to a certain club, but Kelly was only wanting to deal with one club
And according to the below, Geelong were willing to trade Kelly, but wanted 20, 22 and F1 for him, which West Coast rejected.

He doesn’t have elite pace, but footy smart. Just think of a upgrade on Snelling.
Runs to right places, ok crumber, can kick over a jam tin. And also push up as a extra mid if required at stoppages like Snelling.
