2024 mid season draft

I second Smartt, reminds me a little of Gresham.

Able to push into the midfield or high half forward and deliver into the 50 well, but also very crafty inside the 50 himself.

An upgrade on Menzie for me

What’s the go with that Gray kid that played forward in the VFL ? He had that epic brain explosion but other than that he seemed to look alright.

Will McLachlan should be at the top of the list… Goal kicker, Colac lad. Kid will likely be drafted - I feel like the Cats will grab him. But we have a chance to nab him before them and he has big future ahead of him if he can stay focused. Can take a grab and a good kick

This guy looks like exactly what we need:

Interesting watching that looks like since he’s come to the club he’s put on too much weight and lost that spring and speed

  • Che Cockatoo-Collins 15 games as sub and we get father son access.
  • Cyril Rioli, maybe fix efc curse if we drafted him.

other ex efc close to 100 games

  • Martin Gleeson 3 games
  • Gary Moorcroft 5 games
  • Leroy Jetta 7 games
  • Andy Lovett 12 games
  • Trav Colyer 13 games
  • Jake Carlisle 15 games - would probably pick Carlisle ahead of LAV, weid and Hayes.

Get Smartt!

Just looking him up, sounds more like a medium than small forward. So, is he really a need?

We’re going to have the “problem” that we will likely be picking after 10-12 teams, so any obvious talents will likely be gone.

Smartt looks ok but gives me Cahill/Menzie vibes - ie not quick enough to be dangerous as the next level.

SURELY there are better options outside our absolute cluster of a VFL system.

Bring in the best small forward in the country that is not currently playing AFL (and not drafted in on the picks earlier).

Done.

So do you want Eddie Betts or Cyril Rioli?

Where has this come from on repeat? Surely you’re not being serious thinking getting Cyril would be a good idea

I’d do it to troll Hawthorn supporters.

Josh Green is only 31.

Shaun Lewfatt, Lachlan Ross or Russell Williams would get a game for us right now.

3 games all he needs.

29 years old, ready made replacement for Kelly/Heppell injury.

Club Captain and League best and fairest .

He was the best key forward in the game for like… 2 weeks. then he was never good again.

Best two weeks of the past 20 years.

The Young Guns scored a thumping 69-point win over Vic Country at Craigieburn, with some of the forwards proving standouts.

Essendon VFL forward Oskar Smartt spent significant time through the midfield and was the leading disposal winner on the ground for the Young Guns with 22 touches, along with six marks, five clearances and two goals.

The performance came after the 180cm Smartt — who was overlooked in last year’s draft — had booted three goals in the first Young Guns game against Vic Metro.
