2025 best 23

We easily fold

Because when Martin is on the defensive side of the ground his kicking become a liability! On the flip side he seems to have a natural feel for where the big sticks are.

This Kako talk is reminding me too much of Munkara.

Fine, select him but let the kid play a few games and show us what he can do before demanding he is selected.

Same with people putting Reid in the best 22. Poor bugger is made of glass and cant get on the park. Lets see him play more that a half a game of senior footy before making any proclimations.

B. McGrath McKay Roberts (Hayes/Laverde)
HB. Redman Reid Ridley (Lual/Cox)
C. Martin Durham Duursma (Setterfield/Hobbs)
HF. Perkins Wright Langford (Jones/Cox)
F. Gresham Caddy Kako (Davey/Davey)
R. Draper Parish Merrett
IC. Roberts Caldwell Tsatas Bryan, El-Hawli
Emg: Cox, Jones, Hobbs

**Assuming Stringer, Shiel, Guelfi gone.

If you don’t put Reid in best 22 …then your left with Baldwin - also injury plagued, or Hayes or going back to the well with laverde, which we need to move past.
Kako is no different to the wizard, may debut early and then go back to the VFL before coming back to afl again. He should be straight in unless gets injured in preseason. Or Jayden Davey or someone else is flying.

I can see us bringing in a experienced half back like Caleb Daniel or one of free agents - Perryman or Cumming.

…would love to see Reid play

Kako forward pocket. 2MP at full forward. Hayes CHB. Cox if he gets his head right to be an AFL player, could play half forward. Take your pick for the SUB.

McGrath McKay Laverde
Kelly Weideman Cox
Menzie Shiel Jones
Perkins Stringer Gresham
A Davey Wright Draper
Goldstein Parish Hobbs
I/c Lual Guelfi Redman ? ?

LTI Reid

Roberts (def) Parish Tsatas (mid) Perkins (for)
Guelfi (sub)

Em - Hobbs Cox Wright

Lacking defenders and small forwards big time.

Our forward line was way too top heavy this season. Either Langford to defence or trade Stringer.

Like this team - will be interesting to see how the offseason plays out with trades & drafts

Thanks for ensuring I have nightmares for the next 6 months.

Then the real nightmare will begin in March 2025!

Draper Langford Kako

Bryan Durham Caldwell

Bench: Tsatas Shiel SEH Perkins
SUB: Guelfi

Merrett to play Zorko slingshot role off halfback
Martin goes forward to be a dangerous HFF option
Bryan starting ruck feel like 2025 will be a breakout year for him
Draper primarily forward if he cant catch a few & kick goals then 2MP comes in
Team looks solid but lack star power
2MP, Lav, Jones, Cox, Hobbs, Hayes, Davey all good depth & will feature

I thought they were ■■■■■■■ off the Sub next year.

There is potential on the list, but lots of what ifs too. Players who should feature in the firsts…

  • McGrath - lock down defender only. Would be good if he didn’t panic so much under pressure.
  • Draper - being a contract year, expecting a big one.
  • Parish - he’s All Australian calibre with the potential to get back there again given he’s in the prime of this career, all dependant on his body of course.
  • Langford - can be relied upon to kick 40-50 goals and embrace the clutch moments.
  • Tsatas - going into his 3rd year. Expect more game time given the messaging about playing the young.
  • Caldwell - hopefully, he can go another level given he’s got trust in his body now.
  • Merrett - champ who’ll continue to lead from the front… different role in ‘25?
  • Hobbs - in 2023 embraced the responsibility. He’s got the grunt and ability to succeed. Should be given more opportunities.
  • Shiel - still a good player
  • Gresham - more a high half forward who loves playing at the G. Can be dangerous. Needs to bridge the gap between his good and not-so-good games.
  • Cox - don’t get the hate, he’s a handy, versatile player finally building some continuity into his game. Expecting him to have a breakout season.
  • Ridley - please stay on the park
  • Perkins - it’s time. He’s got the weapons and now the keys to play the Stringer role.
  • Hayes - looks promising. Should get games next year.
  • Wright - please Peter, just attack the footy and kick goals, AND put in 4 quarter performances. So much hinges on his output.
  • Durham - just scratching the surface?
  • Jones - roaming 3rd tall but with Stringer gone will likely be asked to take second best defender. He’s been in the system for a while now. Still only 23 so hoping he’s got another level in him?
  • Bryan - is primed to take the next step… exciting.
  • Redman - a little more consistency please
  • Duursma - please stay injury free. So important.
  • Caddy - had some influential moments in his first season. Expecting more consistency next season.
  • Reid - hope the 22 year old gets a decent run of games. Would make a massive difference to how the backline performs.
  • McKay - offers a lot, love his intercepting. Just needs to work on a couple of elements of his game.
  • Guelfi - pressure forward but can be inconsistent
  • Martin - star
  • Roberts - showed heaps. Hopefully, carries that form into 2025
  • Visentini - lots to be excited about here. Will he get some games next year?
  • El-Hawli - ready made, dynamic, versatile player. Can’t wait to see him debut round 1, 2025
  • Menzie - had a shocker this year but we know he can do more. Reckon recruiting Gresham affected his confidence. Expecting him to bounce back in ‘25.
  • Kako - looks ready to have an impact*
  • Setterfield - still only 26. If he gets his body right, super important.

hf: Perkins Caddy Merrett
f: Kako Langford Wright

R: Draper Durham Caldwell

Bench: Tsatas Roberts Gresham, Guelfi
SUB: Cox
EMG: Bryan, Shiel, HOBBS, Jones, Setterfield, Davey

Its tough. question marks over the following
Martin - defecnce wing or forward - I have gone wing, with El-Hawli HBF.
Merrett HFF/onball rotation
Wright forward vs Draper/Bryan Combo.
Tsatas (bench mid) ahead of Setterfield, HOBBS and Shiel
Cox squeezes in on bench, Jones misses out. Davey’s run could be better if sub role still included.
Reid ahead of Hayes and LAV

The lack of Harry Jones love surprises me. Was asked to play an unfamiliar role this year and did it well. Played even better footy when he was in fwd line. Improving each year and IMO will be a vital cog in our 50.

It’s worrying from a list management perspective to see so many of our high picks without a clear role or out of the likely best 22

Only one Reid on the list

Hopefully there’s 2 in 2026.
