We’ll target Harley and end up with Archer.
B: Ridley McKay McGrath
HB: Redman Reid Roberts
C: Duursma Merrett Martin
HF: Durham Wright Gresham
F: Kako Caddy Langford
R: Draper Parish Caldwell
I/C: Guelfi Perkins Hobbs Tsatas El-Hawli
Emg: Cox Jones Bryan
Depth:
Shiel Setterfield Laverde Menzie Goldstein Daveys Hayes etc
Balance-wise we’re probably better off with Cox or Jones in ahead of Hobbs/Tsatas but for now I want games into those kids and some more class at ground level.
Merrett, Parish, Caldwell, Durham, Hobbs & Tsatas the on-ball rotation.
Hopefully we can trade back into the draft to grab some more goalkickers & small defenders.
B - McGrath McKay Reid / Baldwin / Cox / Hayes
HB - Redman Ridley Merrett
C - Duursma Parish Martin
HF Perkins Jones Gresham
F - Kako Caddy Langford

Hobbs Setterfield Wright Menzie Shiel Laverde Hayes Cox Baldwin Luol Davey Weideman? Davey?
Edit forgot Roberts
Let’s just contract Dank and task him with cloning Zerrett. Then our lineup can be a variety of Zerretts.
Agreed.
Though I do struggle to find a place for both he and Cox in the same side barring injuries (as I don’t have either of them on the wing).
But I guess a full healthy list is not something essendon players have to worry about.
Cox is giving me Francis flashbacks
Sorry thought i quoted dogseye. But still works i guess lol.
FB McGrath McKay El-Hawli

Lol that’s basically the whole list apart from dinosaur back ups (Goldstein, Laverde, Setterfield, Wright), kids not ready yet or not good enough (Davey x2, Lual, Visentini, Menzies).
Probs need to pick up a “mature age” 20-22yo or two.
So by my count that’s 36 players, with 6 to pick up? But maybe 7 if Davey is gone.
The best 23 exercise highlights the question of why Goldstein, Menzie & Weideman are on the list. Shiel, Guelfi, Setterfield & Laverde is enough senior ‘depth’.
Martin is great on the wing, but losing Stringer, he’s needed in the fwd line. He’s a proven goal kicker just about ever time he’s been pushed fwd.
I’d like to see this team named for round 1.
Assumptions:
- Reid has a big preseason and can stay healthy, otherwise Hayes takes his place.
- Tsatas has got his kicking up to a passable standard, otherwise Shiel takes his place
- Kako proves he’s up to a round 1 debut, otherwise Guelfi takes his place.
- Wright fixes his concrete hands over preseason, otherwise Bryan to ruck and Draper forward

Bryan, El-Hawli, Cox, Hayes & Davey’s will get opportunity through injury/suspention/or suitable matchups throughout the year.
Not sure if serious.
Not enough elite kickers. Especially out of defense.
I’d like to see McGrath in the forward line. He has enough pace, tackles hard and can read the play. It also overcomes his average kicking down back.
We have hardly any small backs as it is and you want to move him out!? No way Jose.
I think he (and potentially Wright) will be beneficiaries of Stringer being traded.
Will be a more logical looking forward line, talls who mark and smalls who crumb.
Good bottom 4 line up
Who would get a game with Brisbane , Geelong, GWS or Sydney etc apart from
Merrett?
These best 22’s are depressing.
How could we let our list fall into such disrepair.
Infuriates me.
What’s the worst that can happen, finish bottom few?
Durham, Caldwell, McKay , Martin , Redman , Langer’s, and McGrath . Draper with some, Parish with some, maybe Wright ( if in form).
You see, I don’t actually think the individual players on the list are that bad. It’s the coaching and game plan and getting everyone to buy-in, even when things don’t go their way, that has been lacking. If the coaching comes good I think we can definitely be competitive.
To be more than that we’d need a couple of players to step up a few levels, and a miracle run with injuries, but it’s possible.
So I’m going to choose to be lid off in October and November, for yet another year, before being crushed by reality in, oh I don’t know, January.
Tackles hard and can read the play?
You watching the right bloke?
