2025 best 23

Ridley, Durrsma in

Redman, McKay out

In my opinion.

Really hope this is the line up we start the year with. Hayes in for Reid if he doesnt get up.
Merrett to half back to help our ball use out of there, Roberts and El Hawli to swap with wing/half back.
Duursma plays defensive wing, Martin offensive.
Some people may prefer Gresham to Guelfi, I dont. Guelfi’s tackle numbers are very very good when not injured and always goes hard at the man.

Merrett and Durham although worthy to continue as mids should move to outside positions to allow us to get mids like Tsatas and Hobbs a role in our team.
I can trust them in another role.

I went with Merrett off half back too.

  1. it gives us an elite ball user of half back

  2. it allows us to give the likes of Durham and Tsatas more minutes, even with Parish returning.

I’d like to see our main 4 guys become Caldwell, Durham, Parish and Tsatas with Merrett, Perkins, Hobbs and occasionally Martin going through there - along with Shiel and Setterfield when playing.

Essendon have plenty of depth players, but are very light on for best 23 types!

Any finish above 15th in 2025 will surprise.

Wright in the forward line over Jones. Jones proved he could only play once moved out of the forward line…before he went to the wing we were consistently getting 6 possession 0 goals Jones, we’re not going back to that.

Closely resembles my preferred best 23 but with a few tweaks like Kako starts instead of Gresham and Parish over Tsatas.

Missing Draper!

I think part of our problem is that both wright and jones need to play similar roles. Both are easily pushed off the ball and need space and a run and jump at the footy to be dangerous. Ultimately it means both are best positioned as a CHF that lead up to the wings create space and then work back into it.

What we don’t have is a strong power forward that can win one on ones. Hence the push to have Draper forward as he has shown he can (albeit with a 50/50 set shot even from right in front)

So Kako and El Hawii to be the 2 to debut in 2025

One Davey mention in the entire thread!

Yep, I don’t think these are his problems. To me, it’s simply his disposal, it often seems rushed and not clean or controlled.

Where we gonna get 42 goals from?

Controversial, but i dont rate Draper…

Think 2025 is the year Bryan solidifies himself into the number 1 ruck role, with Wright supporting.

Draper has X-factor and we play better with him. Bryan will be a very serviceable Ruck and have a good career but he doesn’t have the flair like Drapes

Probably not that controversial actually. I believe Draper has all the attributes to be a star, just don’t believe he will put it all together to be that. The one thing that I do believe with Draper though is that he attacks the contest harder than wright and jones do. Very rarely do you see him out marked, for that reason I think we will end up with Bryan in the first ruck role and Draper forward 60% and ruck 30% bench 10%

A chunk hopefully through natural improvement of Caddy.
Another chunk hopefully through Kako.

whats the best ruck/forward+ruck combo
  • Draper/Wright
  • Bryan/Draper
  • Bryan/Wright
