2025 draft spec (Part 1)

Interesting neither of our NGA make the 20 or the following pack?

Interesting that Dyson actually dropped a place despite absolutely destroying his counterparts on the weekend

Yeah I agree. I was watching Adam Sweid a little in the weekend playing in the middle for Vic metro and he didn’t have a lot of impact there

it’s more i’m not sure a ruck will be picked at 1. and Duursma while good hoping falls later to our pick, as kicking identified as a weakness.

Annable is a probably the most bankable, will transition straight into Lions side.

I’m not complaining, as outside top 10, means he’s still available at our picks, 187cm goal kicking midfielder with leadership attributes.

A game filled with the excellent and the poor from CDT to open his Champs campaign. His ruck battle against Sam Ainsworth was one of the highlights of the match with both emerging with some credit from the contest. For CDT it might have been the best I’ve seen from him in terms of the two facets of the craft combined, his tapwork and his follow up at ground level. Unfortunately he too often let himself down with his kicking skills, an area where he’s typically very strong but in this game he continually missed targets and turned the ball over.

Dyson is actually a really good fit for us long term imo. Will likely start on a flank but could replace any of Hobbs, Setterfield, Parish etc within 2-3 years.

He’s labelled a contested beast too. we need more competitive players.

Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him end up at West Coast, especially if they get band 1 compo for Oscar Allan. They desperately need more quality through the middle.

Neither. I think he’s being undersold a bit in terms of some outlet’s draft rankings. He’s always been toward the top of the pool right through juniors imo. Reminds me a bit of Serong in that regard.

My concern with Sharp is whether he is a manchild bullying smaller players who won’t be able to take the step at the next level as he will lose the physical advantage.

In other words, are we getting Hobbs 2.0?

No offense but I’m not a fan of this argument. We get it every year about a couple of prospects, and its almost never a thing in reality. This is the U18 national championships. These kids are developed and muscular, a lot of them are athletic and physical freaks. This level is so crazy professional these days you can’t make it without being driven. In gamer terms these kids are sweaty as ■■■■.

In hindsight, the issue with Hobbs was clear. He’d played 5 games total over his two u18’s seasons due to covid. We simply didn’t have the depth of knowledge about the limitations in his game.

No offence taken at all.

There must be something which is causing Sharp to be lower down the various phantom lists than he was last year (where I remember him sitting #1 pretty consistently). Is it the variability in his kicking?

Kicking is a factor, but also lack of elite athleticism. Different observers value different things. I’ve mentioned in a few of my write ups that I see him as one of the most polarising prospects in this pool. Some love him and have him at 1 overall, others don’t have him in their top 10.

I’m probably still a bit annoyed by having this argument a couple of years ago about Harley Reid with one of my mates. He just kept saying all year that Harley is a man child who won’t be able to do those fend offs at AFL level.

How are the Suns going to have the points to match these picks?
Maybe they can have 1 of our picks for one of their next years picks .

Schubert has quickly risen to become the number 1 key forward prospect in the draft pool in the eyes of many. This game provided a showcase of why, with Schubert dominating aerially, taking 6 contested grabs, many of them deep forward, and booting three goals to take his tally for the tournament to 7 through the first two games. His size and strength also allow him to function as a second ruck, adding a valuable string to his bow.

Suns currently have 4,14,18
should be enough points to grab all 3, especially if they trade out 4,14 for more points.
I think if they make finals they can only grab 2 as well.

looking at who could trade up for them…
contenders - North could trade 20+21 for 14.
Eagles 1,13,19 plus whatever Harley Reid & Oscar Allen compo they get - could trade up for 4.

This used to be a thing, but I think it was removed when they changed the rules that allowed us to match on Kako inside 40.

Pretty sure they can match on as many as they like now. Maybe our rules guru @SplitRound can tell us for sure.

It will be interesting if they can only take 2 whether they try to trade back in for the third.
