2025 draft spec (Part 1)

sorry things change so much hard to keep up.

We better finish 15th. Or 14th provided it’s the Dees in 15th.

Every win that Carlton, Sydney, St Kilda, and Port Adelaide notch up is good IMO. Although in Carlton’s case, enough to leap us but not enough to make finals is the sweet spot.

Competitive losses whilst our young players continue to get games is perfectly acceptable to me for the rest for the year.

Squiggle has us 15th

You could make arguments for Carlton, St kIlda, Sydney Port and Demons passing us.

can’t see any of North, Tigers or West Coast going past us.
Hopefully Dees get belted again as pick 4+5 is better than 4 + 8

I watched the highlights of sharp his kicking is tsatas level.

Had a sponsor MS teams online interview with Matt Rosa and Forster-Knight. Such nice guys

They noted that this upcoming draft looks a lot more focused on players from SA and WA. They are flying there most weekends to scout players. Will conduct about 80 player interviews once championships are done.

Rosa thinks Smartt’s upside is good and he thinks he is most likely to debut first out of the 4 mid-season picks. They are rapt with how all 4 are going so far.

They feel Zak Johnson can play multiple roles in the future and has that Martin type flexibility. Rosa said he sees the game as well as anyone at the club. They like that they can trust that he will hit his disposal on most occasions. Retain the footy. Noted Tsatas just working hard on areas he needs to improve on.

Blakiston surprised them with how good he looked at Half-Back (his first ever time at that position). Had 11 intercepts

Cheers for the info.
I’d have thought Smartt would have been the furthest away tbh, but I guess they might want to give Kako a rest at some point (even though we have a bye coming up).

Cheers for that CJ. Anymore info re Tsatas and what the long-term vision is for our midfield mix, per chance?

A strong performance from Cumming who did a lot of the tough contested work around stoppage that helped his team gain the ascendancy through the midfield in this game and contributed significantly to their dominance on the scoreboard. The conditions weren’t conducive to his usual outside polish, but he still managed to slot a couple of goals.

No sorry. Was short on detail with Elijah. I wanted to ask on midfield mix but ran out of time

Smartt first to debut is a dagger to Menzie and Davey.

they were asked who they thought was likely to end up the best of them and both refused to answer - sitting on the fence - but after gushing over Zak Johnson would be super surprised if it wasn’t him

So you dont want to win at all costs and go for the 11th place 3-peat? Thats loser talk

We should be fielding the most experienced team possible every week. No point in rebuilding and getting games into young players, as its not guaranteed to come off. Gorth have been rebuilding for 6 seasons and are still ■■■■, plus the draft is just luck anyway

I’ve seen people say that changed, but I haven’t been able to find anything definitive. Most of the articles have been sort of “here are the headline changes” rather than a full list.

The longer the year goes without a “the little known rule that might put this player in the open draft pool” type article, the more I’d assume they scrapped the top 20 limits for academy teams. Which is kind of silly because it would mean that the rule would have mattered the year before it came in and the year after it ended, but never while it existed.

Silly, but probably exactly what the AFL would have hoped for.

Appease clubs until you re-open Academy picks for everyone and do no damage to one of your babies.

I think it’s a unfair question to ask from recruiters in an open forum.

Found this on Zero Hanger

Nice find.
Ahh, so if you have a bloke bid on at 37, may as well live trade out all of your picks

Still trying to find where it was reported about the restrictions for teams finishing top 4. That previous link makes it sound like it was implemented then removed.
