Can you guys stop talking about Nino and instead channel your energy into manifesting Mitch Marsh becoming a bomber?

Here are some details we might not be aware of…

2025 changes

Draft value index (DVI)/bidding system

New framework for the DVI/bidding system will be implemented aiming to restore fair value.

The new DVI will see points allocated up until the end of the natural third round. (Link to new DVI model)

A 10% discount will be applied on all bids from selection 1 to 18 followed by an 84-point deduction (being 10% of selection 18) for all bids from selection 19 to 36.

Matching a bid - first round: Matched using equivalent DVI points.

Matching a bid - after first-round:

Matched using equivalent DVI points up to selection 36.

Match with next selection from selection 37.

So in summary, bids on players from 18 to 36 will be 84 points discount (not the 10%)

Bids after 37 require no points to match, just the next bid.

If Huss gets bid after 37 he will just cost the next pick.

I think Mitch Marsh is going to be around the mark for that pick 30 (assuming we trade the other picks in the 20s for Suns pick 15). It will be interesting because if Sweid is still on the board with Marsh and we pick Marsh then we have no currency for Sweid! Let alone El Achkar…

If you assume there is a bit of a gap between the top 6 and the rest in the open draft then it may be that we just take the 2 leftover.

Eg - most likely scenario is:

  1. Duursma
  2. CDT
  3. Robey
  4. Taylor
    5. Sharp
    6. Cumming

Or if WC go Sharp then:

  1. Duursma
  2. Sharp
  3. CDT
  4. Robey
    **5. Taylor **
    6. Cumming

Those two feel like the most likely scenarios. The two potential spanners could be Richmond taking Grlj or Essendon taking Farrow.

Or both?

I got a feeling that Melbourne will trade up for Robey and Tigers will take Grlj with one of the Dees picks.

Any bid after 37 can be matched without points being required ie any high pick will do. No need to go into deficit. A bid in the low to mid 30s would require a few hundred points after the 84pt discount. The biggest issue is what will we have done with our 3 picks in the 20s by that point. If we have traded 2 for 1 (eg for GC pick 15) then we would still have a spot left on the list for El Achkar, but if we have used all on picking players (or matching for Sweid), then we would not have a spot left. I’m not sure about whether we could take him and later pay out a contract to release another spot - I don’t think so.

Yeah I sense that’s a decent possibility too. Makes a lot of sense for both teams.

Cal normally does it two weeks out and then does a ā€œlate mailā€ version the day before

I think he usually does one the weekend before so something will drop Saturday/Sunday and then a late mail one the night before.

From memory usually the Sunday evening then another late mail one on Tuesday night on the eve of the draft

No he does a November ranking. He normally states the players likely landing spot. Its close to a mock draft. Day before draft is his phantom. Then a late mail one

If you want to have a play. Apparently need to click reset often if you make changes

Just checked what happened in 2024:
Final form guide: A week before draft (i.e tomorrow)
First mock draft: Monday prior to draft
Late mail mock: Night before draft

Assume it will follow a similar timeframe this year. Purely from a content production perspective, it would be good to release a mock draft on Gettable tomorrow so people can discuss it for a week rather than just two days before.

Yeah any 2 of those 6 would be awesome. Add in Grlj and even Dovaston for a top 8 and whoever falls to our selections would be fantastic. So happy with our position in this year’s draft.

I’m really excited about the Sweid & Huss opportunity we have. Huss & Sweid (starting his career up forward) meets a club need.

Academy link is real heart & soul club stuff.

The discount / matching system whilst tightened is still really helpful. Like @HarryJay outlined above.

The record of club aligned players is they tend to go late.

Undersized players like Sweid go way later than form guides with their under age rank. It’s a thing.

Huss will be around about 37 (or later) so I can’t see him being missed.

Hoping after the Draper ā€œmiscalculationā€ of top 10 salaried players making him UFA the club gave Rosa some Excel lessons. So he can calculate the points scenarios to trade up with 2x 20’s picks and having enough points for both NGA (assuming there are no silly early bids).
